Knew BJ couldn’t finish what he started.
Yes, I knew he was going to yell to Melvin to help him in the post before last. It was just a matter of time before BJ does the Melvin yell. The next post should be Melvin and Kazom coming together and have there big meeting with the cat and shadow man.
This should be interesting.
Another admirer of Zelazny’s greatest pun, I see.
“Was that BJ?”
WAS? Has BJ been removed?
Maybe the past tense was purely unintentional.
It was done reflect the way he speaks. Every kid I know (including my own) uses it that way. Remember gang, sometimes things that may offend your English teacher are going to be done for effect. Nothing more. Let’s all take a deep breath, and save our energy for next strip’s spelling errors. Hee hee- *^-^*
“Was that BJ?” is perfectly fine in the context. Melvin is referring to hearing someone call his name, so “was” refers to something he heard in the very near past not to BJ himself. A longer form would be, “Was that shout made by BJ?” But, normal people shorten it.
“Was that BJ?” makes sense if the speaker is out of sight, but I gathered he and the interlopers are right there in the room.
BACH-MANN, if you say so, then it is so, but I admit I have not heard that usage.
Anyway, I am now reading this as “Is that BJ?”
WAS makes sense to me. was, past tense, as in “was that BJ we just heard”
It seems clear to me that BJ and “friends” are still outside.
@Vimmy:
Yes, if BJ is not in sight. As ranck suggests, and as I thought.
[I’m not nitpicking grammar here; I’m trying to figure out what’s happening and who’s where.]
If Lor doesn’t already know that Kazom is influencing and “guarding” Melvin, he will now.
Actually I think BJ cut them off and Lor is only the start of their name.
So
Lorin
Lorimer
Lorianne
Lorenz
Lorens
etc
etc
“Lord–“something is my guess. But it could well be a name.
It’s actually “Lorion”. See: https://melvin.jeaniebottle.com/?comic=112-azure-agents
And the cat-girl’s name is “Clamor”. Maybe she’s mouthy.
Oh, thank you.
There’s also the super AWESOME cast page… That someone made… ¬_¬
Heh. “Someone” lists Lorion, and provides a good picture–but links to none of the strips in which he appears–albeit only as a shadow.
Ah, making first impressions in the worst way possible, just the way to sell your faction.
