BJ, or Boyd Johnson, thinks himself the ladies man. He couldn't be more wrong, but that doesn't stop him from trying to woo the fairer sex when he can.
Red was a boy until a new genie tried to get Melvin a girlfriend. That's when the genie turned Red into a girl so Melvin could practice talking to girls, and forgot to turn her back before disappearing. Red is hopeful that her situation is only temporary.
Clarence is a boys name though, as he is now biologically Female
it is more logical to rename her so as to ensure a smooth social transition
they should have gone with Clarice, Claire, or Clara
all of which have the same origin as Clarence
and hold the meaning of bright or clear
also a similar name would be easier to adapt to using.
It shouldn’t even be up to the parents anyway. It should be Clarence’s choice whether to change her name. And forcing TIFFANY on her is SADISTIC. It’s the sissiest girl name there is. They give not one f* about their son’s emotional health.
Yeah I noticed she has pretty big muscles, bigger than she did as a boy, as well as low body fat. But it must be that she’s working out to compensate for being d*less. She didn’t look like that right after being changed. If I was changed into a girl, that’s what I would do. I wouldn’t stop when I broke my previous weightlifting records either, I would get serious and I wouldn’t stop until I was f’in she-hulk.
‘Tiffany’?
…
And she was used as the model for some kind of barbarian princess, too, wasn’t she?
…
You think Clarence’s parents are secretly fans of the Exiern webcomic? ^^;
Personally, I would’ve done Clarence a favour and just gone with ‘Claire’. Less of a change…
I for one am glad they did not use the name Clair for the good reason that if you plug, red head Claire comic, into any search engine you would get a much different comic and character. Mind you it is a nice comic but ware the forums because every day is pancake day. 😉
Bambi, Amber, Cici, Milly, Tessa lots of girly names but Tiffany winces that poor girl. Her parents have inflicted a horror upon her truly she shall never escape the breakfast at Tiffany’s jokes.
She is cute though, looking forward to seeing where you go with these 3.
Incidentally is that shirt a nod to the princess webcomic?
http://theprincesscomic.com/ story about a transgender well future transgender and their problems getting people to accept them. Interesting webcomic and they really do have a bit of a princess fixation complete with crown.
If the bottom center panel is supposed to be a reference to the Tommy James and the Shondells song (Tiffany if you must), then the lyric is: “I think we’re alone now, there doesn’t seem to be anyone around.” There is no “else” in there. If it wasn’t a reference to that lyric, it should be. Just sayin’ . . .
I admit, I recognized the song reference, but I can’t figure out why it fit here. (It was one of my favorite songs when I was about their age, and it would still play on the radio now and again.)
Remember these are supposed to be middle schoolers, and the song is about an underage romance. Seems appropriate.
Now, Red seems a bit “advanced” in the female body development area, but I do remember a middle school girl I saw once that I would have sworn was 17 or 18 so Red’s not totally our of the realm of possibility. She’s just a bit out toward the end of the bell curve (no pun intended).
@ranck, good observation, but why is the quoted lyric funny to the boys? What point are they making?
As to Red being “advanced”, I agree completely. There were several girls in my junior high who were stunningly gorgeous; any straight male of any age over ten would agree.
The other side of that is that we boys of that age were right at the end of that time when girls develop a little faster than the boys. As a result, these exceptional girls were way out of reach from their male peer group. We tended, therefore, to be a little overawed by them. Often, if it had come to a fight, we boys would have been at something of a disadvantage.
By highschool, though, the advantages were reversed. Boys tended to be bigger and stronger than the girls.
It will be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out in this comic. At the moment, Tiffany is bigger and more developed than the boys. I’m wondering if her male mindset, combined with her slight but temporary edge in maturity and strength, is going to result in some unusually aggressive behavior towards her former peers.
@William Gregory: Well, if true, that would make me wrong, so you must be mistaken. Case closed. The science is settled!
I admit, these guys strike me as closer to 12-13 than to 15-18, but that may just be me. I’m old enough now that I have occasionally referred to the twenty-something crowd as “kids”. Here, let me show you a picture of my grand-niece.
@William Gregory: Ooh, I may have caved too soon. Check out this comic of Melvin next to Jeanie: jeaniebottle /?p=289.
And this one, where Jeanie talks about what she wore in “junior high”. jeaniebottle /?p=331
Melvin is so short, in fact, that I’m going to peg him as eleven or twelve. Boy’s got some growin’ to do. Red could well be significantly taller.
Except, shooting myself down again here, in this strip, right after the transformation, she’s no taller than the boys, making the whole thing moot until TB-M shows them all standing together. jeaniebottle /?p=447
(Also, she’s apparently back home from the All-Girls school her evil parents shipped her off to: /?p=870 so there may have been some growth involved.)
Also, it finally sunk in that “Tiffany” the singer did a remake of the song and Melvin and BJ are really too young to remember that Tiffany, but it’s more likely they’d know her version of the song than Tommy James’ version.
Wouldn’t it be a goofy turn of events if Red’s appearance was tied
to the CURRENT artist’s representation of War Hammer in her comic?
Annnndddddd….
New artist does a redesign.
The designs are very nicely done. My only concern is that I’ve seen plenty of artists go into a block because of the effort I see when I look at this comic. I’ll ununderstand if the style becomes loose because your doing so much per week (or whatever the release schedule is). For everyone else fyi, a comic isn’t easy ad a pinup which makes artistic style go down as we progress the story. Not saying you can’t prove me wrong artist but that will be a challange. Even comic book artistic style go loose. Loose as in more cartoon (or even worse) than realistic.
Regardless, I’m looking forward to this and see as to where it goes from here. A lot of promise here but may I suggest the girl not show her belly so much. Most girls don’t do that unless they are attracting a guy.
Ah, poor Red, being saddled with Tiffany as a name.
Love the “Princess” crown and writing on the shirt! Red’s friends had better not forget that she is a WARRIOR Princess, however. Boys who are TG’d into hot redheaded girls tend to be quite good at kicking butts. (e.g. Ranma Saotome)
There wasn’t a lot of Melvin in the story arc he appeared in either. While he likes Holly, he is still a guy and so knows a hot girl when he sees one. Also, he was commenting on the War Mallet character that resembles Red, not Red herself.
This is my first comment on our site! (insert fanfair here) I appreciate what Saint Guardian has brought to our attention. I do hope that style remains at optimum levels, in spite of life’s little ‘Imperial entanglements’. Thank you for the understanding of what goes into the final product. Oh, and the answers to the belly shirt are coming soon. 😀
Red’s parents are dicks. The could have let him pick a name after all she is going to be stuck with it for the rest of her life.
Did they also buy her all new clothes and not give her a choice? That’s not how a nerd m/f would dress it is super cutie though.
As I recall, Clarence’s Dad was on the phone to an agent minutes after she came home. It was like they finally had the stage fodder daughter they’d wanted along.
So, yeah, dicks. They probably are going to spend all her money for her, too.
Just like the old saying everyones a critic. Don’t let home bother you. I rather she be amazon. She’s more bad ass as she is BACH-MANN so keep up the comics as you see fit.
At least it wasn’t Ashley. That popped up as the #1 name for psycho girls. Tiffany is still in the top ten though. So far Red doesn’t seem to be having much trouble adapting and overcoming this change. I hope she learns fast. Some women are really vicious and competitive.
I like what I’m seeing so far. The story is starting off pretty well, even for those who might not remember the characters from the Jeaniebottle comic. The detail and shading this artist puts into it is nice also — sets it apart (though it does look familiar somehow).
Will each update be two rows of panels, or will it be a single row, 4- or 5-panel strip?
@The BACH-MAN: The very tiniest art quibble–no, wait, this is kinda a pet peeve of mine: the four-armed throbbing vein symbol appearing over hair. Three-armed is the anatomical norm–and TBM, you have clearly expressed Tiffany’s anger in her face, the throbbing vein is unnecessary.
(There. Probably the one and only time I’ll quarrel with a manga art trope. Oh, wait, giant sweat drops and lustful nosebleeds. OK, done now.)
No prob. We all have our little things that bug us. Mine is ‘one-upper’s’. Those guys just get under my skin. Not that I want to start a trend of yielding, but you’re right. None of those things are necessary. I feel ya. Thanks for the input.
Ah! I wondered what that little symbol was in her hair. It just seemed odd to me. I guess I don’t follow the right comics, well I don’t follow comics much a all, so . . . eh.
For those of you that might be interested, the strip is done in pencil, then inked with Micron pens, and colored by hand using prismacolor markers. As an artist, I was always curious about that sort of thing. For those of you reading this with a glazed look in your eye, sorry for the interruption.
I am most interested. Any time you want to share your technique, there is at least one person interested.
You are off to a great start. I’m really pleased with the art. As others have noted, Clare-, er Tiffany seems a little older than when we last saw her. Then again, that might be over-emphasized by her standing while the others are sitting.
The thing is, while it’s sort of funny for them to change Red’s name to “Tiffany,” but it falls flat because there’s just no setup. There’s probably some reason why her parents went with that name, but without knowing what it is, it seems like they’re going out of their way to humiliate her, which doesn’t mesh with what little we’ve seen of them so far trying to make an idol of her.
not to hole punch the plot because i love the comic…but why cant melvin’s magic Genie cat turn her back or shift peoples memory other then Melvin, BJ, and Red
In most Genie series, one Genie can’t undo another Genie magic. Lord BatCrap could undo the underlings Genie’s magic like Jeanie, because, he a Master Genie and out ranks her in both power and authority. Kazom use to be a master Genie, before he retired and handed the job over to Lord BatCrap and now he is just a teacher Genie that associated with Melvin as his master. Kazom basically took a demotion so he may or may not have the power to turn Red back into a guy. After maybe a 100 or so cartoon strip to establish all four caractors along with a basic story line of what going, if he want to, BACH-MANN can introduce us to a new Genie in training to screw everything up like Jeanie did when she showed up. But, it will probably be awhile, before BACH-MANN chooses to do that.
Of course *The Melvin Chronicles* will be primarily Melvin telling us about his friend Tiffany or Red with a whole lot of other detail thrown in that doesn’t relate to her too. After all, it Melvin that is basically telling us the story. So it authors prerogative here as to what he says to us in the comic. This story can concentrate on Red for awhile and then take a detour somewhere and then come back to Red again. We aren’t locked into any one way of doing anything here.
I think that everybody interested in Red at the moment and what she does and what happens to her and what her parents do to her more than the other two characters right now. So I think telling her story would get more mileage or interest from current reader that are following this comic. I would not ignore them, but, they can be developed also as support characters for Red to bounce of too.
True. Then again right now the only things we really know about them and the majority of it is Red problems of late and Melvin having a pet cat/genie. Perhaps with more to this comic we learn more about the characters it will unlock more interesting things of other characters to bounce too.
Just had a thought about why red might be so well developed. The magic catsed on him was done by a man not a teen in high shool. So the nagic that changed red might have been changed her to nath thebolder mans thought of what a teen hottie would look like.
Jeanie had changed Red to match her plan to have Melvin learn to talk to hit girls. It was not a wish from Melvin himself. So the magic that changed Red was all done by someone of an older age group.
I feel they should still call her Clarence. That would be the most respectful. How horrible that this THING was done to him against his will and he’s supposed to submit to having his name changed? They should remind their friend that she can still get a hot girlfriend and that none of the doors have been closed for her.
Aww, I liked the name “Clarence”, though I do not know why.
I think it’s been shown in Jeanie bottle that her parents aren’t concerned with such things. Wait for it……. they’re dicks! 😀
It shouldn’t even be up to the parents anyway. It should be Clarence’s choice whether to change her name. And forcing TIFFANY on her is SADISTIC. It’s the sissiest girl name there is. They give not one f* about their son’s emotional health.
Will be looking forward to seeing how they have been since last we saw them.
Always good to be first and say first. Liking the art. The story is starting off cute. Def liking it.
Helllooooo Red *wiggly eyebrow*
Seems Clarence got a bit more of a physical upgrade becoming Tiffany. (She’s tougher and stronger and cuter.)
We can remake her. We have the technology! :p
lol
No, we have the wishes.
I love your take on these characters! Melvin and BJ are right, though: Red is HOT! 🙂
Can’t wait to see what happens to these characters. Red’s character design= :0 I see how he/she got the modeling job.
Who’s the artist? Doesn’t look like CD…
The artist is The Bach-Mann. If you’d like to give him a shout out you can email him at Bach-mann@jeaniebottle.com. 🙂
First comment on a new series! Couldn’t resist. Really looking forward to seeing what you do with this!
‘Tiffany’?
…
And she was used as the model for some kind of barbarian princess, too, wasn’t she?
…
You think Clarence’s parents are secretly fans of the Exiern webcomic? ^^;
Personally, I would’ve done Clarence a favour and just gone with ‘Claire’. Less of a change…
I thought the same thing, but you beat me too it.
While I am a fan of the Exiern comic, the name Tiffany came from the fact that it is the most girly sounding name I could think of. 😉
What about Cinnamon? :p Or Scarlet?
shes not a stripper lol
Clarissa?
Explains it all. Sorry couldn’t help it…. *starts ducking tomatoes*
Ironically, that’s why Exiern used it, too.
I for one am glad they did not use the name Clair for the good reason that if you plug, red head Claire comic, into any search engine you would get a much different comic and character. Mind you it is a nice comic but ware the forums because every day is pancake day. 😉
Would that be Questionable Content? Or is there yet another red-headed Claire n webcomics?
Bambi, Amber, Cici, Milly, Tessa lots of girly names but Tiffany winces that poor girl. Her parents have inflicted a horror upon her truly she shall never escape the breakfast at Tiffany’s jokes.
She is cute though, looking forward to seeing where you go with these 3.
Incidentally is that shirt a nod to the princess webcomic?
I don’t know what webcomic you are referring to, so no. It was an artist choice.
http://theprincesscomic.com/ story about a transgender well future transgender and their problems getting people to accept them. Interesting webcomic and they really do have a bit of a princess fixation complete with crown.
Good artwork, by the way. ^^
Thank you! *’-‘*
You’re welcome! ^^ Are you on Deviantart?
Not yet. I will be soon.
I can’t wait. I also enjoy your art work here. I can’t wait to see how Red’s dealing with her new issues. Not to mention her school life.
Awesome comic!
(And… FIRST to Comment!)
Can someone post a link to their first appearances?
The story arc started with this comic. http://jeaniebottle.com/?p=287
BJ looks a little too cool.
Kinda reminds me of Johnny Gat from the Saints Row games.
Hey, yeah he does look a bit like Gat.
Just sayin’ . . .
Good start, looking forward to more . . .
Yes, it is a reference to that song. It’s a bit different because of the grammar of the lyrics didn’t match what someone would say.
I admit, I recognized the song reference, but I can’t figure out why it fit here. (It was one of my favorite songs when I was about their age, and it would still play on the radio now and again.)
Remember these are supposed to be middle schoolers, and the song is about an underage romance. Seems appropriate.

i thought they were freshmen in high School

OK don’t get me wrong.. but what song reference cause I’m completely lost on the joke here..
Also, it finally sunk in that “Tiffany” the singer did a remake of the song and Melvin and BJ are really too young to remember that Tiffany, but it’s more likely they’d know her version of the song than Tommy James’ version.
Oh. OH! I searched Youtube for that, but the intro was in a completely different style, so I skipped it.
I couldn’t place the group, but I remember the song–from when it was new!
Sadly, so do I…
Wouldn’t it be a goofy turn of events if Red’s appearance was tied
to the CURRENT artist’s representation of War Hammer in her comic?
Annnndddddd….
New artist does a redesign.
I’m a guy. As for the rest of your comment, be careful what you wish for! MUHAHAHA!
The designs are very nicely done. My only concern is that I’ve seen plenty of artists go into a block because of the effort I see when I look at this comic. There is a reason that she is wearing what she is wearing. 😉
Will this be explained later on? The shirt I mean.
Yes.
I’m fairly sure the reason is either her parents, or Clarence overcompensating as she acclimatizes to her current form and gender.
Then I retract my previous complain and humbly thank you for answering my complaint. I do hope this webcomic goes on for many, many years.
I loved that series! All hail the warrior princess! *^-^*
Wasn’t Melvin more into nerdy girls like Holly. He didn’t really care for “hot”.
Melvin is still a guy, you know? 😉
To be fair Red is still a nerd despite being hot.
What I’m saying is that Melvin did not look at the cheerleader and said “Man, she’s hot”. But now he does about one of his best friends.
There wasn’t a lot of Melvin in the story arc he appeared in either. While he likes Holly, he is still a guy and so knows a hot girl when he sees one. Also, he was commenting on the War Mallet character that resembles Red, not Red herself.
I see.
Melvin is also more into Blonde Girls though lets not forget that
This is my first comment on our site! 😀
Hey, speaking of exposed midriffs: jeaniebottle dot com/?p=331
Hey, Claire? You do not get to pick your own nickname. That is awarded. Earned.
I do hope your little fan club there grows some balls.
Love the art style !! Great work
Thank you!
And I forgot to say, I love the drawing style and the character designs. Lots of potential fun here.
…And I suddenly remember this is the Adventures of Melvin, not the Adventures of Clarence. Tiffany. Red. Whoever.
Melvin, I hope your adventures lead you out of the labyrinthine dungeons of nerdihood.
Yea! It’s HERE!
Wow! BJ got a tan XD
I absolutly love this new artstyle BTW, gives a bit of variation with the more cartoonish look jeannie bottle and sailorsun have.
So what does BJ stand for? I’m assuming it isn’t short for B— –b. Are the mean jocks going to tease him about his initials?
BJ stands for Boyd Johnson. I’m sure the mean jocks tease him about everything. He is a nerd, after all. 😉
See this strip, tying up loose ends: JB /?p=870
The artwork is dense and cluttered, the font is low-rez and you’ve turned Clarence (‘Tiffany’? Really?) from a geek into a busty amazon. Disappointed.
Well, we can’t please everyone. 😉
Screw Haters i love the art work…its make them look more old school anime and gives them a more real person look
Damn it, Tim! I’m an artist, not a miracle worker!
We know, we know…just a simple country artist, right?
Boldly drawing what everyone has drawn before! heehee. *^-^*
Captain that this comic is highly fan loving Logical
Just like the old saying everyones a critic. Don’t let home bother you. I rather she be amazon. She’s more bad ass as she is BACH-MANN so keep up the comics as you see fit.
At least it wasn’t Ashley. That popped up as the #1 name for psycho girls. Tiffany is still in the top ten though. So far Red doesn’t seem to be having much trouble adapting and overcoming this change. I hope she learns fast. Some women are really vicious and competitive.
So what’s the update schedule for this series? Sundays?
Mondays and Fridays at midnight EST.
Most of the time it will be a single 4 to 6 panel strip, but there could be more if the situation calls for it or we just feel like doing more. 😉
I like this already 🙂
Thank you! We’re having fun with Melvin and the gang. I hope you enjoy the strips to come.
I’m going to say it: I hope Tiffany ends up wearing girly clothes now and again.
And to tell the truth, I hope she learns to like it, at least on occasion.
‘Cause, man, she is smokin’!
Heehee.
If I know laughter liek I think I do.. that might b a sign of things to come…..
I guess I don’t follow the right comics, well I don’t follow comics much a all, so . . . eh.
Me either. No biggie. 🙂
I was intrested but onle followed up to the word prncil then you lost me lol. Then again in just intrested not an artist.
What better name for an Idol than “Tiffany”, though? Idols are supposed to be ultra-feminine.
Can’t kazom undo the spell? He is a more experienced genie than jean so he should be able to change red into a man again
That shall be addressed.
not to hole punch the plot because i love the comic…but why cant melvin’s magic Genie cat turn her back or shift peoples memory other then Melvin, BJ, and Red
Kazom is Melvin’s genie cat. “That shall be addressed.”
A hint of the difficulties here: JB: /?p=795
Nice launch strip. What’s the intended release frequency? I need to know what set of book marks to put it under.
We will update Mondays and Fridays.
I hope the gender swap aspect remains. There are already a lot of “two nerds and there hot female friend” comics out there.
Don’t worry your heavy little head, Heavy. We love the flip-dip-dipidy-doo aspect of the strip as well! 😀
You and me both. I like that aspect of Red.
I know the comic’s labeled with Melvin but I’m more curious how Clarence, Tiffany or Red is dealing with her new life and other issues…
So the magic that changed Red was all done by someone of an older age group.
please, PLEASE tell me that eventually, BJ asks Tiffany to autograph that poster ^_^
I feel they should still call her Clarence. That would be the most respectful. How horrible that this THING was done to him against his will and he’s supposed to submit to having his name changed? They should remind their friend that she can still get a hot girlfriend and that none of the doors have been closed for her.
“Tiffany” – I heard that means “Hunts Diamond Charm Bracelets with her daddy’s money” somewhere.
