215: Kahin is Spooked
But what could spook a genie? Especially one who’s supposed to be able to see the future…
Also, as a heads up, the release of this page on Wednesday does not indicate a change in the schedule. Hollum has just been having trouble maintaining the usual schedule for the last few weeks. Life has recently been harsher than life in Venezuela usually is.
I read the description, I’m very sorry that you’ve been through a lot Hollum.
Sorry to hear that man.
Also, why do I feel that Mel’s going to have as much trouble getting the ring as Holly did?
Not sure, Rose thinks of Melvin as her true “master”.
I would be willing to bet that those three granted wishes were what the Pink One wanted, not Red.
I bet Rose is just bullshiting Red; she is a fae, not a genie.
I thought that was just what Rose claimed to be. Isn’t she really a succubus?
Although either way, she can’t be trusted at all.
Are you sure succubi don’t count as fae?
Genies are basically fey anyway, the trapped in an object is little more then an excuse to get them in the plot. Genies otherwise act in all way like fey in western stories.
OK, I’m a little puzzled. What does Kahin mean in Panel 6? Is he suddenly trying to stay close to BJ-turned-Melvin, for some reason?
I’m thinking that he’s afraid of Rose (the ring) and thinks that if he stays close to BJ (Melvin) he’ll be safe. Apparently, there may be some sort of hatred Rose’s race has against his and he expects trouble and he’s using BJ as a shield.
I don’t think it’s about race. More likely, there is something in future which makes him worried.
I’m guessing that this is how the remarks in Panel 7 are assigned –
Red lettering: Tiffany [“Red”]
Pink lettering: Rose
Tan lettering: Saachi
Black lettering: Kahin (?)
Green lettering: BJ (?)
Yellow lettering: Holly (?)
Right, Hollum?
That is how I read it.
Ohhhh, that makes way more sense than what I was thinking. I just couldn’t figure out who the heck was talking about wives, because I didn’t put together that it might be mind-whammied Saachi talking about Mel.
I’m sure Rose doesn’t mean any harm, but good intentions can do more damage than evil. Good intentions + energetic stupidity does so much damage evil isn’t even in the running.
As the old saying goes, “The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.”
And I would respectfully disagree that Rose doesn’t mean any harm. I think that she’s amoral, even at the very best. And probably worse than that.
You’re probably right. Rose doesn’t want to harm Melvin (she’s obsessed with him after all) but I’m sure she views Red as nothing more than a tool and it’s likely she has a cockeyed conception of “harm”.
Rose’s exploitation has revealed that Red does have some attraction for Melvin, but whether that’s innate or a result of all the magic Red’s been hit with is anybody’s guess.
I don’t think her conception of “harm” is that cockeyed. But you’re right that she doesn’t consider Red’s opinion relevant. On the other hand, neither does her mother OR her father.
It’s possible Melvin is the ONLY one who thinks it’s worth it turning Red back to boy. Yes, I mean that not even Red wants that anymore, after all magic she was hit with and the time already spent as girl.
