Red is extra cute when she’s frustrated and embarrassed.

Red’s slip of the tongue on the previous page, accidentally starting to call him “Henry” instead of “Dad”, was a huge hint.
That as well, yeah.
This is what known as a Blended family. But, all in all, Henry seem to be a nice guy at least to Clarence or now Tiffany, but, those name’s are kind of ominous though, it make wonder what deep dark secretes that Henry’s hiding. We have already kind of had a preview of Mary back history, now it time for us to find out who Henry is. It look like that Mary is a wannabe witch that got washed out in her teen years and now she trying to live her life through Tiffany.
Speaking of Mary, I still wonder if “Walsh’s Blood” is referring to something beyond her getting kicked out of Southeil. As in does the Walsh there JUST refer to her Mom or is there more to it. This stuff is why I think that Tiffany will be awakening as a Witch at some point, possibly as a result of Melvin’s attempted “fix”.
Yes, it is referring to the Blood line of Mary. Evidently Mary was intending to follow her mother through Southeil into witches group and she never made it. I think Mary mother was one of those witches too, which would make sense why Mary would know about them and why she would want her son who was now turned into a girl, to have her to become one of those witches too. But, evidently Mary did something that got her kicked out of the in crowd of witches or didn’t pass the mustard to satisfy there requirement to be included into there ranks. Mary still went to this all girls Southeil for recruiting girls into being witches school, but, they did not recruit her into the main group of witches like they are trying to recruit Tiffany to now.
There could be several reasons why Mary was rejected into the witches order and why they are intent on recruiting Tiffany into the witches order and they are:
1. Tiffany, is photogenic and would make a good spokesman for them, after all, she a female model. Which was one of the reason there trying to recruit her into being one of them.
2. Mary as a witch may have been under powered as a witch and not up to the level they wanted. Jeanie having turned Clarence into a girl along with Melvin working his magic on Tiffany, may have woken up the witch power of Red and/or added more protentual witches powers that she would not have had before all this magic was use on her.
1.Tiffany is a close friend of Melvin and one of the best way to get Melvin, is to have the girl he going to get married too. They could be planning an arrange marriage to Melvin so that they might be the witches faction that will get Melvin. This won’t be the first time that they have used marriage to pull to kingdoms together and it won’t be the last time either.
There is obviously a very strong witches blood line in Tiffany already. The question is, where it going?
@Larry. I thought Mary got kicked out because she became pregnant with Red
That may be true too, but, the point is, that Mary got kicked out of the main witches group prematurely before she could become one of them and it wasn’t because, she didn’t have witches powers be there either. Those details may not have been made clear to us why she was thrown out or removed from the main group or witches, but, Mary is trying to live her fantasy through Tiffany life now, her new daughter, the one she was denied to her in the past when she was there. That why she had Tiffany enrolled into southheil all girl school for witches right after he became a she. Mary trying to recover some portion of what she lost when she was there as a high school for girl and do it through her daughter too. That about all we know about that matter at this point. But, we do know what Mary intent is here and what she intend to do with Tiffany or use her.
@Ben: That was my feeling also. The only cause I had to doubt it was uncertainty as to how Red’s father fit into that scenario and well, now we know.
So were saying that only virgins can be admitted to the inner circle at Southheil?

Assuming that there was indeed an offscreen thing with Red and Melvin at that dance, we can then look at the page Ben linked above me and its reference to history repeating itself. This sets up the implication that getting pregnant was the issue for Red’s mom.
That leads us to another question, though. Why would that be an issue? The meeting in a dream sequence mentions witches who have children and still exert authority within the witch society. However, as far as I could tell, all the ones we actually see don’t have children, so its possible witches lose their powers when they have kids? That’s not a worldbuilding idea I like, but it’s a possible explanation. There are other ones as well, such as witch society just not approving of teenage or out of wedlock pregnancies(much like real society didn’t before the last twenty years), or even that Red’s mom had the ‘wrong’ person’s kid.
All of this is technically conjecture, so I could be completely wrong about all of it.

Given Clarence’s lack of detectable casting skill, it is highly likely that his genetic father was a Muggle, and that he was thus suspected to be a Squib (to use the Harry Potter terminology). Between the amount of Genie and Witch magic applied, and the apparently-stable transformation into a woman, *Tiffany* is very likely to awaken as a Witch.
I am going to take the position that his magic capabilities was always there, but, it was never developed or encouraged by Mary and she even discouraged it even to keep him out of her sight and out of mind as much as possible and really had no use for Clarence even and only put up with him because, he was her son. She took care of his physical needs, but, that was just about it, he was basically being raised by Helga for his first fifteen years or so.
All that changed when Jeanie transformed Clarence into Tiffany, for better or for worse, it infused some of Jeanie and Melvin Magic into Tiffany along with her own Magic that she may have had that was untapped too. We also have a wayward mother that suddenly interested in her daughter for her own ulterior motive that are something less than are pure.

Frankly I dislike the name Tiffany, it sounds too much like it should be worn by a 90210 character. Clarence changing into Clarice is a much smoother transition, and has a Silence of the Lambs vibe to it I find appealing.
@Larry he was basically being raised by Helga for his first fifteen years or so.
About that, this page just confirms that Mary, Red and Henry starting living together 8 years ago. The first Seven Years of Clarence life, were just him and Mary living as a single mother, living together. The Flashback page Ben linked early in the comments even show how Mary had to ask Susan for nanny duties while she looked for auditions. Helga would come later, after Mary and Henry got married.
@Mike Sadly, the name of Clarice has already being taken, and considering how much she cares about names, I doubt she is willing to give hers so easily. Funny enough, she even gave such as strong Silence of the Lambs vibe, that someone in the comments figured her name on her looks alone, before the actual reveal!
OK, fine, 8 years from 15 years is still 7 years that Helga been there maid before Clarence turned into a girl and she now 16 years old. For 7 years Helga has been taking care of Clarence and comforting him when he come in crying and not Mary his mother doing that job. In those 7 years, Clarence learn to turn to have Helga to be his comforter instead of his mother who was obviously not really interested in him. Mary, basically off loaded the business of being Clarence mother off to Helga there maid and she seem to accept that roll too. In that 7 years, they both developed certain amount of emotional attachment to each other and such Go back and read it, Clarence turned to Helga for helping him and not his or her mother for help. That why he felt a betrayal be Helga, because she didn’t come to help him like she has always done in the past, but, not this time. But, Helga understand who or what kind of person that Mary is. You don’t cross that kind of person, because, if they can, they will destroy you if at all possible and being that Helga her maid and she works for her, Mary can indeed destroy Helga and she knows that. If you read the story closely, You can see, Helga tried to do an end run around Mary and Mary would have no end run around her by Helga, so she speak to her in German her native language instead of English, just so Helga couldn’t claim to misunderstand what she was saying and do something entirely different than what Mary wanted her to do. There was absolutely no doubt what Mary intention are here and she left absolutely no avenue for Helga to go down to help Clarence or to side with him in opposition to what Mary was doing to Clarence. Helga was on Clarence’s side all the way in this matter and not on Mary side in this matter and Mary knew that and that why she did it the way she did it. It was to swash any possible counter moves by Helga from now on or in the future to what she wanted to do with Clarence or Tiffany.
