Second heir of the House of Azure, Lazarra is an intelligent and cold woman, looking to prove herself as the rightful master of the Azure by any means necessary. Alongside other covens, she leads the Southeil Academy in search of natural born witches among the mortals, under her guise as Headmistress Anning.
Red was a boy until a new genie tried to get Melvin a girlfriend. That's when the genie turned Red into a girl so Melvin could practice talking to girls, and forgot to turn her back before disappearing. Red is hopeful that her situation is only temporary.
Yes, that is very supicious indeed. Like Melvin is eithr a bad influence or the wrong kind of friends for Red as Anning see it. She may even know that Red use to be Clearance too.
The fact that she always emphasizes “Miss” in “Miss Thornton” is suspicious… That’s happened three times in three pages. I feel like it must be significant.
So, in panels 1 and 4, Red has the blank white eyes that makes her look kind of like Little Orphan Annie. I wonder if that is a deliberate homage by the artist . . . just me speculating, I doubt it means anything.
I think Carlos is going for an effect often seen in anime, where a character who is totally confused/scared gets an expression with nothing but whites in their eyes.
Oh, I like this. I applaud that idea that Red has responsibilities beyond her own desires and frustrations, and that this is an HONOR, not merely a burden. I hope this a chance for her to take pleasure and even pride in her new form.
Just go back to the comic here. https://melvin.jeaniebottle.com/?comic=37-the-councils-summons They are mentioned by name. I guess I am surprised because I SEEMED to be the only one who bothered to cross-reference the names here aginst that page. Or at least I was the only one talking about it.
To be honest, it has been somehow amusing to read the comments the last few pages, because everyone seems to be aware of who it’s our nameless kitty here, something they catch as soon as she was introduce, but likewise, many readers catch just as quickly what the deal with Anning is… but at the same time, is something that nobody seems to be openly discussing, so I just rather play along and pretend it would be a spoiler to talk about it just in case 😉
@Carlos I DID have to go back and check to be honest. But I thought if they HAD been mentioned before THAT’S where they’d be. Turns out I made a good bet. ?
“act like a lady” Oh, how terrible! Be a model of beauty, grace, and kindness to her sisters students! A fate worse than death!
I’d love to see Red take this role, and learn from it. She’ll be representing her sisters to the school, and the school to them. In other words, she’ll be a leader. I hope Miss Thornton can do a better job of it than many of the screaming harpies we get.
Nothing like some pressure to help you grow as a person. Red may have a more difficult time with this. The sudden transformation and being stuck as a teenage female without the psychological defences in place to combat the female on female psychological warfare that goes on. Being smoking hot, a bit nerdy and having an acting/modeling career thrust upon her will either break her or refine her into a very formidable opponent.
Red may not have a choice, they may just draft her and make her a student council member. It wouldn’t be the fiirst time that something like was done to somebody. Beside Mary, Red Mother would be all for it, because, that how women in this society make there future connection. If Mary finds out about it, Red wouldn’t have a choice, because, Mary will decide for her. That how overbearing forcefull that Mary is over Red. She trying mold Red into a youger copy of herself.
Spoiler yes, but also kind of redundant due to what it’s coming next, back on Hypnos. I can just confirm, in case Kazom’s dialogues are somehow ambiguous, that this three are indeed some kind of fairy. Besides that, here is another line for a little of vague backstory on the subject.
“Represent the School” and all that BS. Hmmm…. Possibly another example of “Private” Schools more interested is something other than providing a good education to their students.
As for the “Student Council”, why am I getting the impression that sup-plot will become a variation of “Mean Girls”?
I’m imagining Red in that last panel thinking, “You F-ing hypocrite! How dare you tell me to act like a lady when you’re dressed like a high-class prostitute!”
So does she know Red’s friends with Melvin or is this all a coincidence?
She specifically mentioned “questionable friendships outside the school” on last week’s page, so I’m guessing she does know about Melvin.
Yes, that is very supicious indeed. Like Melvin is eithr a bad influence or the wrong kind of friends for Red as Anning see it. She may even know that Red use to be Clearance too.
With that cat I can’t see her not knowing more than she should about Red.
The fact that she always emphasizes “Miss” in “Miss Thornton” is suspicious… That’s happened three times in three pages. I feel like it must be significant.
The fact that Anning keep stressing that Red is Miss Thornton, may indicate that she knows that Red use to be a guy.
Honestly, I’m so used to webcomics randomly emphasizing words that this flew right by me.
She also refers to Deborah as Miss Fayet. The use of honorifics indicates that this is serious, official business.
@Ophidiophile: Yes, but she doesn’t emphasize “Miss” when addressing Deborah. Only when addressing Red.
Now that you mention it, she does emphasize Miss when speaking to Red.
I just double checked. The names of Blackwood and Griffin are BOTH mentioned here. https://melvin.jeaniebottle.com/?comic=37-the-councils-summons So yeah, this is DEFINITELY witches business.

“Represent … as proper ladies!”
Do I see a spell in the future affecting Reds behavior 🙂
Just wanted to mention once more that Blackwood and Griffin are BOTH the names of COVENS in this universe.
Unsurprising. I mean, that cat is clearly too cool to not be a witch’s familiar.

If I was Red, I’d turn it down. That’s a whole boatload of time-consuming drama that nobody needs.
And she would have to act like Lady while doing it too. That would be the werst part of it.

Judging by her appearance in the last story, Red seems to have been taught well in the art of girl-rilla warfare.
I have no doubt that it was Ida that taught Red pretty much everything she knows too.
Consider the company you’ll be keeping, Red.
Red may not have a choice, they may just draft her and make her a student council member. It wouldn’t be the fiirst time that something like was done to somebody. @Carlos Can you tell us anything about Fae? Or would that be considered spoilers?
