BJ, or Boyd Johnson, thinks himself the ladies man. He couldn't be more wrong, but that doesn't stop him from trying to woo the fairer sex when he can.
Red was a boy until a new genie tried to get Melvin a girlfriend. That's when the genie turned Red into a girl so Melvin could practice talking to girls, and forgot to turn her back before disappearing. Red is hopeful that her situation is only temporary.
we need a poll to decide on what to call girl-Melvin from now on. as for “Johnny” there, somebody needs to give him a heavy hit in the head… BOTH of them!
Why is Red pissed about “Melody”? Does she think Melvin doesn’t have enough trust on her acting skills? Or is it envy over his ability to change gender at will?
The latter. Remember that Red can’t change back to normal without making things worse for her. While Melvin can change gender with a simple spell and then back again.
I am going with SageM here. Remember why there here in the first place, was to get the Azoth so that they could change Tiffany back into Clarence at the end of the day. Melvin doesn’t have to deal with Jeanie magic when it come to transforming into a girl and back into a guy. That the Azoth purpose was to break Jeanie magic off of Clarence and turn her back into a him again.
BJ appear to be completely non interested in the matter or even like he a fifth wheel. He appear to be completely and totally disengaged when it come to acting like he Melvin boyfriend.
I think it’s both, though Sage and Larry make a good point that it’s likely *more* about Melvin ka-girling himself. It’s also at least partially because Red is pissed about Melvin and BJ not trusting her to accomplish her goal.
Red may also feel that Mel is mocking her, not merely by taking girl-form, but also trying to horn in on her seduction act. “Dammit, I worked hard to develop these skills, and you think you can just jump in and steal my thunder?”
Two questions. In the second panel BJ’s dialogue would suggest that this isn’t the first time Melvin has transformed himself into a girl. Not counting the promotional fillers has he ever done this in the comics?
Second question; how does Desiree know Red’s last name?
First question: Melvin has, in fact, ka-girl’d himself at least once in canon, though it was during the time-skip right before Hollum started his run making the comic (and I’m pretty sure it was by accident). We saw only a single panel flashback to it, some time relatively early in Hollum’s run.
I don’t know about the first question, but, the second question might be because of SouthHaul High School, because it in the witches directory there. Since that a recruitment site there, they may have her photo there too.
Actually, it turned the Blue Ginn into a mortal girl and turned a mortal girl into a genie or Jeanie, It was Jeanie that turned the Blue Ginn into a baby girl so she could start over again with a afresh slate to work with and dumping her old memories in the process.
As you said, the Azoth is highly unpredictable and unstable and it anyone guess as to what going to happen.
It one of those thing where you could be damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation. I am sure it was the lesser of two evil kind of situation kind of choices for Kazom. Or possibly he did the crystal ball number to Melvin toilet again and saw the future or something like that.

Red is not going to let Melvin/Melody live this one down anytime soon.

That’s really the only reason why she is pissed.

So, Melvin magic disguise idea is pretty good, but better plan for fake names in the future agreed.

No one seems to remember that the Azoth is highly unpredictable and unstable ( it turned the Blue Ginn into a baby…).
Assuming that these shop people let them possess it, there is no telling what might actually happen – to all of them.

Still, I cannot imagine why Kazom thought putting the Azoth in Jeanie’s hand would be a good idea.
