156: He Should Have Seen This Coming
Just imagine how many pages I could have saved myself, if Kazom had told them about the MacGuffin earlier.

I have not had a chance to copy edit this page, yet.
EDIT: I have now copy edited the page.
I wonder how long it’s going to take them to realise that they both were placed in the power draining room for a reason, to drain both of their power, not just Melvin’s. It’s pretty obvious that Red has magical power, undeveloped as it may be.
I dunno… Maybe. Red has magical *residue* on her, from both Jeanie and Melvin, that at least one witch seems to have confused for magical potential.
But does she have the potential to actually become a witch herself? Hard to say.
Maybe it’s her aura of cuteness. https://melvin.jeaniebottle.com/?comic=reds-first-steps-page-12 Panel 7.
Red’s studying at a witches’ school, as well.
She HAS magical potential as long as she’s a GIRL in her mother’s family line.
And every indication is it’s supposed to be wielded AGAINST Melvin’s family in normal circumstances.
Dick and Desiree sensed Blue’s (Jeanie’s) energies on Red, so they assumed she is supernatural as well. In fact this is possibly correct.
What if the energies somehow feed on each other?
If Red has Witch potential, then it is possible that direct exposure to the Source of All Magic will awaken it.
If Dick has the Quat Euzma aka the source of all magic in his grasp, why isn’t he ruling the Universe?
Maybe he needs one or more other magical items to tap the power of the
DARK SIDEAzoth Quat Euzma, and he doesn’t have all of them yet.As was established in I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle, the Quat Euzma is not really *usable*, as it’s pretty much pure chaos magic. So one can’t wield it as a tool to take over the world. It’s largely just a very valuable curiosity…
Well, it was, until Jeanie threw it at Blue and it blew up, causing the chaos magic inside to swap their bodies.
Note that said event takes place in the future of the MC story.
It was also established by this comic that the Quat Euzma was fundamentally altered by Solomon, just like Geniekind totems.
Altered by Solomon? Could you cite the page number?
So, we’re still before IDoaJB 557 (https://jeaniebottle.com/archives/comic/jeanie-bottle-557), but likely after 555 (https://jeaniebottle.com/archives/comic/jeanie-bottle-555).
Jeanie didn’t just throw the Quat Euzma at Blue, she bashed her in the face with it using a rather lovely Venus Williams style two handed backhand. It doesn’t take any training to use a powerful magic object as a blunt instrument, especially when you bushwhack your quarry in a doorway. Also Kazom specifically stated that only a non-magical being can safely handle or use the Quat Euzma when he delivered it to Jeanie, presumably because they’d be immune to it’s effects as long as it’s properly contained. So Dick may horde it but he probably can’t use it. And hey Red? back off a little, because Kazom’s “I should have known” makes it obvious that Kazom didn’t realize Dick had the Quat Euzma until he saw all of the security measures.
this has not occurred to me before. Red’s mother was a potential witch. Why wouldn’t miss Red have witch potential herself?
Maybe it was suppressed while Red was a guy, but came to the surface when Clarence got ka-girl’d?
I think the answer to that is no one really knows as of yet, but we have been shown that at least one magical faction (Ms. Anning & Co.) appears to be intensely focused on Red. Whether that’s because Red has powers, the potential to be given powers, or can just serve as a handle on Melvin is still unclear. Though there is that patreon AU where Red has become a member of Anning’s faction.
Maybe Kazom could get a fill-up of magic from the Quat, he could certainly use one.
Probably also knew that if he told them they’d go after it before they even have THIS much power and get their asses caught
