Red’s First Steps: Page 12
Apologies for the missing comic last week. Hollum’s internet was entirely down for like 9 days, so it just wasn’t possible for him to upload the page.
To make up for that, here’s a double page this week! And this page would have been (largely) on time this week, except that Robert happened to go to bed early on Friday night, and thus was unable to post it when Hollum sent it to him for copy editing.
I was thinking that Hollum’s version of Henry Thornton didn’t match up with CDRudd’s https://jeaniebottle.com/?comic=02092013 but these last couple of pages has rectified that. Now I just wonder if Red’s effect on him is magical or if he just has a weakness for cute redheads.
Maybe MARY cast something on him which caused his weakness for cute redheads.
This is madness … no, THIS IS SPARTA.
Panel 7: it took me some time to realize its BENEFITS…
p.s., I have to agree with Henry on this one. Red wants to tell her parents what happened, but she’s not sure if they’ll believe her. not only that, but Mary’s hiding something from the both of them involving Southeil.. the problem is, Mary’s not telling them squat!
Fixed the typo.
thanks. did you get my p.s. as well?
Well, it shows Henry cares. Although some tact and kindness might be lacking in some parts of his speech, but I suppose a mob boss doesn’t have much use for those. Has Red explained that an airhead, bimbo, genie did it?
Evidently Red hasn’t explained it to Henry yet, that a blond headed female genie did this to him. That appears to be one of the secret that Red is keeping from Henry and what he is complaining about. Henry also realizes that Mary up to something too and it all revolve around the all girl school Southeil too. That about all Henry knows right now and he playing catch up now trying to find out what going on right now. He evidently doesn’t know that Southeil isn’t just a school for girl, but, is a place for recruiting new girls into the witches guild. At this point, he evidently doesn’t know this either.
The plot thickens what will happen I’m excited to see where this goes. There’s much more world building in this series than one would expect from a first glance, and I am loving it
PS:Man once again I must say how much this has improved since the trauma that was Kazom in Dreamland, let us hope those days don’t come back to haunt us .__.
But, I do agree with Henry here, Red or Tiffany is one heck of a spit fire here and she does really set things on fire!
Do we have any confirmation of Red having any arcane aptitude, besides the magical residues of Jeane and Melvin on her body?
I don’t think there’s any sort of confirmation. But there’s certainly plenty of reason to speculate in that direction:
* The fact that Mary attended Southeil, and seems to have been destined to become a witch, except that she got pregnant and dropped out.
* The attention that the Griffin Sisters pay toward Red.
* “Walsh’s Blood”, whatever that is, seems to be related to Red, since Mary’s maiden name is Walsh.
* Henry seems to believe that Red’s grandfather, Douglas Walsh, has some sort of connection to magic.
That’s a *lot* of evidence pointing in the direction of “Red is a potential witch”. But it’s just circumstantial evidence at this point, since we don’t know exactly how magical heritage works.
We know that Mary is probably a low level witch herself, because, she went to Southheil all girl school for recruiting girl into the witches group. We know that Mary washed out of the main group or central group of witches at the Southeil, but, she is still a witch on some level and she has a witches blood line and since Red is Mary son or daughter in this case, that Red has a witches blood running through her too. Red may not have known that she in witches blood and it may not have been developed or investigated before this time, but, it there none the less.
Really like Henry closing his eyes and turning away – he knows something is messing with his thoughts, and he’s resisting.
I agree that Red is afraid she won’t be believed but I also think Red is just as afraid he will be believed and explaining any of this could get his friends in trouble or even in danger if Henry really is a mob boss as Red fears. (Remember Red still thinks of himself as a boy at this point.)
Still, we get a much deeper look at Henry here. He isn’t just an opportunist, and he can think clearly when Red’s unconscious cuteness powers aren’t clouding his brain. And he cares enough about Red to worry about Mary’s intentions for the poor girl.
Poor Red only gets his parent’s approval by being what he’s not.
I kind of have a fairly good feeling about Henry and the way he is trying to respond to this situation with Red. Mary is primarily the opportunist here. This backward look after Red became a girl of maybe one to two week time frame after it happend, so yes, Red still see herself as a guy and like Henry Red is afraid or what Mary going to do too. So you he or she is both full of fear and hope that she might still be changed back into a guy. This is probably the first half of the first semester of 9th for Red, Melvin and BJ time frame.
I’d say their both opportunists just in different ways.
let me guess.. no new page today due to computer problems?
