# 04 Transmojification
Totally not a made up word…
To all of you who asked why Kazom can’t change Red back, here is your non-answer! You’re welcome! :p
Totally not a made up word…

So.. it’s both, he can’t and won’t?
It kinda seems like he made the excuse on the fly going by the pauses. That or he simply doesn’t know himself what would happen, other than it could be bad.
Or he spent so much time napping he forgot what really would happen and simply doesn’t care to try as well.
Or there is no word that describes the effect he’s trying to point at, and he’s fumbled the pronunciation of “transmogrification”, which let’s admit is not the easiest word to say.
Heh. I just looked transmogrify up, and it means pretty much what I thought it did–except many dictionaries say it refers to a humorous or surprising change. And by the way, a slang word for cat, especially one with no pedigree or who is otherwise unremarkable, is “moggie”.
So that’s how he wound up Melvin’s cat he tried to undo someone’s spell and wound up trans-moggified.
Soooooo Red at least know’s the cat which gives her the creeps is an intelligent genie and insults him twice while hoping he’ll turn her back into a guy not very smart.
Or he knows the genie won’t waste his life to magically get back at her.
And once again Kazom avoids doing any magic and living a little longer.
Yeah, I’m thinking it’s one part “Unpredictable not-good stuff might happen”, one part “don’t wanna waste the magical energy or the effort”, and two or three parts “It’ll be more fun for ME to leave you like this and watch what happens”. Hey, when you’ve lived for well over three thousand years, you get your kicks where you can.
To me, it seems more like “It’ll kill me to fix you, but I don’t want to tell you that, and shit did I forget the word I was trying to say”. It takes a lot of power for a genie to undo another genie’s magic, at least according to the IDoaJB information page, and the K-man is old and, presumably, rather close to empty at this point.
And just curious, for those who are donating through patreon, are the wall papers and certifcates stuff ebing sent out next month?
Yes. We are working on them now and they will be ready by the 5th of next month. I will also be posting some goodies this weekend. 🙂
YAY!!!! I can’t wait. And glad i didn’t miss any. I hate when I miss out on good art.
I’m gathering that this is sort of, Yes, you can shout Fire! in a crowded theater without good cause, but you shouldn’t, and not least because you will be one of the ones trampled.
Kazom seemed nicer in Jeaniebottle. Then again, we mainly saw him interact with Jean and he did let Jean go not because he was properly trained, but to mess with Lord Guano.
So i guess i shouldn’t be too surprised.
That said, he’s not wrong. It certainly could have been worse.
Also, Jeanie is a genie, not a human. Imagine how much impatience for humans a genie might develop over three thousand years of servitude.
Still got to agree with red… he is being a bit of a dick…
Look how Jeanie responded to the selfish demands of the Greek fishermen. How many times do you think Kazom has had to grant requests just as foolish, or worse?
And if my guess as to why he’s a cat is correct, of course they assigned him to a genre savvy nerd, someone who has read the old tales and knows what happens to those who issue the three wishes without thinking about it.
Never said he didn’t have his reasons. Hell I can barely stand the customers that come to my work expecting me to solve all their issues much less over a thousand years of it. Just ment you can tell Kazoms enjoying Red’s torment while talking to her.
Indeed. It seems humans in this universe are lucky genies aren’t like the Dijinn from myths or the literal/Jerk genies that show up in some movies/shows.
Though that scene with the fishermen and Jean did seem to show that genies in this universe can twist wishes too.
Or wishmaster “I wish everyone would remember my party” slaughters all the guests.
Look what happened to the priesthood in Exiern when they tried to change Theresa back into Thomas.
I loved that part. 🙂
To be fair, at least one of them was happy about that outcome if i remember correctly.
Never mind, i thought you meant when they tried to change Tiffany back.
No, you’re right. It was Tiffany. Thanks.
I really need to get back into reading that. It got kinda slow and cruddy right after the artist/writer changed, but I’ve read a few pages recently and it looks much better these days.
I’m not sure what this transmojification stuff is but it sounds complicated and also shagadelic!
Wasn’t it first mentioned in Calvin and Hobbes
well…there goes plan A.
Did we have a plan B?
Sure hope not. I’ve lived through the “three nerd friends” scenario; Red is more intriguing than Clarence.
Sorry, Clarence.
OH wait plan B was to come up with plan C….
“…trans…mojification…. At least you’re still human.”
Says the feli-form genie near the end of his life.
I’m thinking he is speaking from rather bitter experience. Caused by a noisy human making an intemperate wish.
I always thought Guano might have been involved somehow, seeing as Kazom doesn’t seem to like him.
Hm, good point. Guano did the original change to a cat, Kazom’s master demanded he undo it, and the spell backfired, turning Kazom himself into a cat.
@BACH-MANN: I like Kazom’s little round belly, with its prominent belly button. Makes me wonder if his original human-form was pot-bellied with an outie.
Also, I like his claw swiping gesture in the last frame, kind of the cat equivalent of flipping the bird.
And the M-for-Melvin stripes on his forehead and ears! Clever!
Actually. all tabby cats have an “M” in their fur between their eyes and their ears.
Thanks for noticing. 🙂
He certainly has a big cheesy grin for Red while waving her off.
That would depend on what kind iof Jeanie he is. Remember thies three ways for a genie to be born.
I just lost all respect for Kazom, he has lost all of his personality traits from jb.
Situation is different. In JB, Kazom talked to another genie and to his “master,” Melvin.
Plus, Red, who is NOT Kazom’s master, has made a demand, not a request, and a demand that Kazom is somewhat touchy about (possibly because a similar demand turned him into a cat).
I’m sorry you feel that way, but remember kids, flushing out doesn’t just happen in toilets. 🙂
If i was a genie i would try to get out of granting wishes to. Considering it is my life force powering the wishes.
I was wondering if the Honey poster would still be in Melvin’s room. 🙂
Of course it is! I can’t thank you enough for taking a chance on me with your creations. Keep your eyes peeled for other CD- isms in the back ground! Thank you my friend. I hope you’re enjoying the strip. 😉
So Far so good. I too hope your enjoying making the comic.
What’s the deal with Melvin’s expression in that last frame?
Is he dismayed by Red’s scorn?
Or has he learned (painfully) to treat Kazom with more respect?
Might be scorn and confusion at being blamed for how his genie acts.
Not that I can say that Kazom is ‘his; per se other then that he lives in Melvin’s room.
Out of the mouths of nerdlings. 😀
I was afraid of that. I’m betting that he would not be reacting that way if Red were still Clarence, but the power of boobs compels him.
I think its more Red’s dilemmas then the boobs.
Like Blue Eagle always reminds us, “It’s all perception.”
Blue Eagle? … I’m missing the reference… Can someone fill me in.
I think Kazom can turn her back, but finds Clarence/Tiffany to be more amusing this way. Millenium old genies need to find entertainment somewhere.
Anyone else think Tiffany looks a bit like girl type Ranma with her hair down?
I can see it.
She needs to pony tail it, but, there some similarities there.
dont you mean pig-tail.
Red? I don’t see it, Red’s hair isn’t as round or bouncy.
I’m surprised nobody has yet brought up the First Law of Genderbending as an additional reason Kazom can’t/won’t change her back.
Kazom looks more… impish than I had expected. ^^; He seemed more powerful and sinister the last strip.
And we really haven’t seen the Second Law of Genderbending: The Kuno Corollary. That is, the genderbendee will immediately pick up one or more obnoxious suitors. (ref: Ranma 1/2)
I believe the correct term is: transmogrification.
It means to change or alter but with grotesque or humorous results.
Kazom is basically saying that for him to try changing Red back into a male might cause an undesired transformation.
That’s not what he’s saying at all. Notice the pauses. 😉
Ah, so THAT’s why the cat-genie isn’t a solution. You COULD ask the cat-genie for the whereabouts of the other one.
