BJ, or Boyd Johnson, thinks himself the ladies man. He couldn't be more wrong, but that doesn't stop him from trying to woo the fairer sex when he can.
Owner of The House Of The Rising Fun. Van is a laid back old stoner who likes to reminisce about the early days of tabletop RPGs. He often tells amazing stories that are hard to believe.
Red was a boy until a new genie tried to get Melvin a girlfriend. That's when the genie turned Red into a girl so Melvin could practice talking to girls, and forgot to turn her back before disappearing. Red is hopeful that her situation is only temporary.
If you going to FAIL make it memorable.
Something tells me BJ is in charge of the fail in this group.
Also were is the Blue wizards Guenevere? Or did that not work out after the dance.
Blue’s nerdy blond “Guinevere” is not yet part of his circle. This would be long before Jeanie’s intervention. Heck, he may not even have started crushing on her yet.
There’s the flashback of Clarence and I think I see why Jeanie picked him, he looks the most feminine of the trio. This should be an interesting hammering.
Well, we are talking about Jeanie. You are probably overthinking the level of planning in her decision making process. More likely he was just in the direction her eyeballs were pointing at the time.
Thank you. We like it. And we appreciate everyone who votes for us. We went from a ranking of 1019 just a few days ago to 409 now. It’s awesome to see our comic getting so much attention. 🙂
Wow. It was just last strip that I was saying I would like to see a flashback to pre-transformation Clarence, and here we are. As you clearly had this in the pipeline already, thanks for your excellent work anticipating reader demands.
So, apparently BJ is not the sharpest knife in the drawer . . . wanting to employ a failed strategy just because it’s his idea. Melvin or Red will have to come up with something better, and it seems like Clarence *had* an idea the last time, but got bulldozed by BJ.
I notice that Melvin’s miniature character has a similar mask to the comic’s logo. Nice touch.
You don’t know, he might have made improvements since it was last used. I hope BJ isn’t being relegated to dumb comic relief character.
Wow, I didn’t notice the similarity till you mentioned it.
Will these fight dynamics be discussed in comic? If so, I’ll stop pestering you. Otherwise, please enlighten this War Mallet ignoramus…
I understand, then, that BJ will be fighting Liam (or whomever his opponent is) using his three barbarians. He should have something like one barbarian, one mage, and one archer (just to make up names), but he has chosen to fight with all barbarians. Is that the “fighting vee” concept, three melee fighters of the same type?
OK, I’m not a table-to[ role player, or any kind of role player, so it seemed to me that the 3 figures represented the 3 friends’ characters for the game. It would not matter who owned them. But, if that’s not how it works I’ll just keep quiet and watch . . .
I still think the one miniature’s mask resembles Melvin in the logo anyway. 😉
I’ve never played Warhammer–excuse me, War Mallet–but can’t a necromancer turn a corpse into a zombie? Which means he (or she) could kill your guys (or gals) and then get them to fight against you?
Not necessarily “Evil”–that’s what the Zombie Master does in the sixth Xanth book to fight off the latest barbarian invasion. After all, dead is what a necromancer does.
Ahh, the Fighting V. Is that the strategy wherein you run directly at the enemy with no cover whatsoever, screaming as loud as you can, in the hopes that the opponent, seeing your display of martial spirit, immediately surrenders?
Look up “flying wedge”. Properly executed in proper circumstances, it’s said to be quite effective. It’s strategic equivalent is the “schwerpunkt”, or “focus point”.
The flying wedge is so effective that it’s banned in many rushing sports, such as football, because it’s dangerous to the defenders.
Unless BJ is doing something really, really stupid, like not properly reinforcing his point, or using it against a massive encircling force that has no particular weak point to attack, his basic idea is probably not out of hand bad.
“Look, here’s what we do, see, we form up the troops into a V-shape, like a funnel, and pick the enemy off one by one as they try to escape out the point….”
Interesting question. Is the magazine spread in the first strip of Red, or is Red just hired to play the part of her later? If it’s not her, why are they so nervous about her seeing them looking at it? I suppose it could be that she just has lost patience with guys ogling girls in general whether its focused at her or not.
As for Andorxer’s question, I wouldn’t think her job would disqualify her. As a model, she wouldn’t be an employee, most likely. She just got did a photo shoot, and the photo shoot might have been conducted by an outside agency. I don’t know that there would be any real conflict of interest in letting her play. Looking at it from another angle, professional athletes are allowed to do adds for the sporting organization they work for.
There is also the question of the nature of the tournament. I used to manage a game store, and while sanctioned tournaments are a thing, most of the tournaments had nothing to with the company that produced the game.
If you going to FAIL make it memorable.

I think the metaphor you are going for is the Blue Wizard’s Nimue.
BJ will obviously fail at just about everything he does, but, he will make it memorable, that for sure.
I doubt it could top “FLYNN” rolling a 1 when attempting to backstab a book because it’s prone and stabbing himself.
There’s the flashback of Clarence and I think I see why Jeanie picked him, he looks the most feminine of the trio. This should be an interesting hammering.
Concur Clarence does look a bit on the feminine side.
Well, we are talking about Jeanie. You are probably overthinking the level of planning in her decision making process. More likely he was just in the direction her eyeballs were pointing at the time.
If that theory were true how do I get her to look in my direction next time?
If you are ever in Jeanie’s presence, you really shouldn’t have to work too hard to get her to turn you into a girl.
Is this a mighty ducks reference? Fighting V as in reference tot he flying V from the movie?
I can neither confirm nor deny this allegation…
Fair enough. but you also can’t stop me from pointing out how similar it is. ^^
That is true. 😉
Wow. I JUST realized that it’s not “The Flying V”.
Also want to say I like the pic used for the voting link. It’s awesome.

Was the pic inspired by Melvins dream of world domination?
More like if Melvin were President.
But why stop their? ^^
@Sol The reason to stop there is that President Melvin’s world domination came to a crashing halt when BJ deployed the Flying V once again.
Wow. It was just last strip that I was saying I would like to see a flashback to pre-transformation Clarence, and here we are. As you clearly had this in the pipeline already, thanks for your excellent work anticipating reader demands.
Thank you. *^-^*
Being precognizant is required for the job! 😉
hmm… “fighting V” makes me think of the “flying V” Go ducks!!!

Quite so, heavy. More than that, circumstances might be different.
Then again…”The theory can’t be wrong; do it again but harder!” has been the downfall of entire nations.
All of the miniatures are BJ’s.
But are those all the miniatures BJ has in the fight? That is, does he only have three miniatures to fight with?
Let’s face it, with only three fighters, you’re going to end up with either a “fighting triangle” or a “fighting line”–and I’d pick the triangle.
Yes. The fights are 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3. It’s usually a good idea to have a diverse party. BJ has all barbarians.
Will these fight dynamics be discussed in comic? If so, I’ll stop pestering you. Otherwise, please enlighten this War Mallet ignoramus…

Looks to me like Red’s figure in that last tournament might have been a girl. Foreshadowing in the flashback?
Red didn’t have a miniature in this fight. All three are under the control of BJ.

[But feel free to correct me; I have neither military training nor game experience.]
I was mostly describing the most ridiculous plan I could think of.
“Look, here’s what we do, see, we form up the troops into a V-shape, like a funnel, and pick the enemy off one by one as they try to escape out the point….”
Well an arrows pointy like a v.. so if we take a v formation we should be pointy and dangerous as well.
Yeah, except I’m talking about aiming the open end to the enemy, and trying to scoop them up….
All moot, if there’s only three combatants for each side on the field.
Is Red even allowed to join the tournament or will her war mallet job disqualify her?
Does she have that job yet?
First… Cosplay at some con…photographed at the game
company booth…. hired for publicity….???

Now, now, for Red’s sake, it should be updated with at least one girl figurine and renamed “The Fighting Venus” *hides behind easy target BJ*.
Probably no need to duck. I think you actually went with the classiest V-word option there.
