Red’s Roots
Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! It seems that Red’s dad is being extra enthusiastic about the holiday this year!
Also, Carlos wanted to let you guys know that he’s not suffering from blackouts very often any more, and he expects Melvin Chronicles to return to its regular schedule this Thursday!
By the way, to see this image in full size, click here.
EDIT: CD Rudd got on the St. Patrick’s Day art train, as well!
Carlos, I’m so glad you’re okay; I had no idea where you were, I hope you are doing well. Please stay safe!
Same here. Hope your situation stays stable now.
Thanks for the good wishes guys! Is honestly complicated because the situation is drastically different around the country, but because I live in the Capital, things are *mostly* stable around here, so even if not perfect, there is no reason to stop my work at the moment, working on the MC or any other given project is a good way to handle the stress, so I hope to keep the updates coming!
Well, if his last name is still Thornton, he could be Irish.
I know, that’s why I wanted to make clear the Irish heritage comes from her mother side!
But according to “The Quiet Man,” Thornton is an Irish name, and Red had to get that from his father.
Thornton had a British/Scottish origin, but is also used on Ireland, is an UK surname in general. I did confirm that it’s not an unusual name in Ireland, but it is more associated with England and Scotland, with it’s origin seemingly coming from actual places called Thornton all over England. Yeah I did had to check that just to make sure this dialogue would make any sense in the future.
Hmm, I wonder why Grandpa is on the outs with his daughter and grandchild. Maybe he disapproves of the man she married?
I imagine that we’ll find out, someday. For now, we just know that he’s a jerk, and both his daughter and granddaughter acknowledge it.
@Robert Am I correct to assume you are as much in the dark as we are?
This is feeding the rumors that Red has fae heritage. Not that I mind, mind you.
On a side note (semi related to the above) I can’t help but wonder if either Carlos or CDRudd has watched Gargoyles. 🙂 They don’t have to answer if it’s a spoiler. But if nothing else I thought it would make for interesting conversation in the comments.
At first I thought Red was implying that her Gramps lives in Ireland but on second glance it’s not implied so where he lives is something else I hope will be eventually revealed.
Like why his parents pretty much ignored him until his transformation and if having a daughter mattered so much to them, why didn’t they try again. I am sure that somewhere in the comments someone asked about a will with some sort of first born daughter clause on an inheritance. Probably something prestigious the financier Mr. Thornton would covet and possibly something from Mary’s side of the family with a lot of sentimental value for her. Pure speculation (and most likely wrong) but it’s fun to speculate.
I agree with you, speculation IS fun ?
