Hey kids, looks like all good things come to an end…
unless we’re talking about voting. Then the the fun just keeps on going! So, go on and vote!
Sincerely,
BACH-MANN & Shhadow
“Dolly Pardon?” No doubt she sings country on the side…
(Oh, by the way, “weird” is an exception to “‘I’ before ‘E’ except after ‘C.'”)
There are only 40 words the “I’ before ‘E’ except after ‘C” applies to.
Well she’s also Dolly Pardons, because she “Pardons” (i.e. forgives) all of Molly’s weird antics . . .
This reminds me of a 15 minute call a co-worker had with his wife. On the phone for fifteen minutes in a long drawn out story for her to tell him she put gas in the car.
I was starting to think this conversation was never going to end.
Well, now we know the story behind Holly condition after she left Melvin bedroom. Beside Holly being out of it, she has a lot imaginary friends that really exist, with the exception of Saachi, that is. And Saachi like to tell stories, but, it not Gossip, because, she doesn’t repeat it. So you better hear it the first or you not going to hear it.
It kind of a technicality when it come spreading gossip. But, now we know how Saachi is a gossiper that is very expressive with her hand and probably her voice too, if we could hear it. There probably each other girl friend, because, there the only ones that tolerate each other. Kind of like the two ugliest guy and girl getting together, because, no one else would have them.
I think you missed that *Molly* has lots of imaginary friends. I’m assuming that Molly is Holly’s sister, and because of her imagination Saachi and Holly are not putting too much stock in what Molly says.
So why did she hug him? I’m betting because he’s the first guy to stand there and listen to her for any length of time without his eyes rolling back into his head, hitting the ground while foaming at the mouth….
actually, she just needed someone to talk too. and she knows how much Holly means to Melvin, that’s why she hugged him. and as a gift for Holly.
I think Saachi likes Melvin, maybe not in a big crush kind of way, but a little bit, at least. Will this cause conflict with Holly, or is this one of those situations where Saachi likes him, but he likes Holly and Holly is blissfully ignorant or possibly likes someone else entirely.
Yeah, I think that Saachi at least trusts Melvin more than she would just any boy.
It was already gossip girl.
But don’t feel too bad, because the lust for gossip was what motivated the human development of speech, just like it was our lust for beer that drove our first attempts at agriculture.
But… isn’t that a chicken/egg kind of thing? If you need agriculture to have beer, how did we know what beer was to lust for it before agriculture? Was it just some unknown longing that was satisfied when the first beer was made? “Yes! This is IT! This is what we’ve been searching for all this time!!”
The first beer came from the barley the gatherers could get on the open fields, but to get it more consistently and in greater quantity they planted a field only with barley and then tended the crops until it was ready to harvest, that was the birth of agriculture, because that way we could get a much more consistent supply of beer.
It only expanded from their, but beer and gossip was what truly started human development and brought us out of the stone age.
According to a book I have called, “The History of the World in Six Glasses,” historians believe that beer is a natural result of storing grain. Basically, as soon as someone thought to build a storage building of some sort to keep grain in, water would have gotten in and made beer. Humans being humans, put 2 and 2 together and quickly figured out how to do it better and more consistently. So, at least according to that scenario, beer and agriculture sort developed together. One thing that beer does is make questionable water safe to drink.
Imagine the first humans to find that water leaked into the grain shed.. what would entice them to taste this liquid? Curiosity? A dare? Cause I, for one, would NOT randomly taste liquid laying in a puddle on the ground…
You could say that about practically any food. One can only imagine what went through the mind of the first guy to drink cow’s milk. Who was the first person to eat chicken? Who the hell first thought it was a good idea to put raisins in cookies, tasted it and decided to continue doing it?
Most are easy: we saw other critters kill and eat things, and so did we–we were hungry. We’re omnivores, you can tell by the teeth. Eating meat comes naturally.
Cooking, now, that’s tricky. But once you get it, food becomes much more efficient: cooked food, especially meat, is much easier to digest. But we’ve been cooking for at least a million years. Some speculate that our brains couldn’t really develop until we learned to cook, and could get the extra nutrition. Alton Brown said it, so it must be true.
Cow’s milk is a bit trickier: baby cows drink momma’s milk, so do baby humans. Hm. Maybe cows (or goats, or yaks, or whatever you have wandering outside in the paddock) would taste good and be nutritious–and it is, very nutritious, especially for calcium. Unfortunately, it makes adults sick, gives you the hershey squirts. The genes that allow milk to be digested is relatively recent, less than maybe 15K years. And they evolved at least three different times, first in Europe, around the time we started herding cattle. See “lactase persistence”.
Many mammals enjoy naturally occurring alcohol–often from a wine that occurs when fruit drops into a watering hole. There are amusing videos of drunken wild critters of various sorts, but I understand elephants on a bender is very much a badness thing.
So we might well have developed a nose for ethanol, and then detected it in leaking granaries. I bet it wasn’t off the floor, though–more likely just eating the fragrant, fermenting mash itself.
Cooking was probably invented when people were sitting around the campfire (since fire had already been harnessed), and somebody dropped their food into the fire, then decided to eat it after the fire had burned out. This introduced them to the idea that, as Homer Simpson said, “Fire made it good”.
Well, not at least in the sense of spreading unfounded rumor, especially malicious rumor; it was a more or less first and second hand account of the event, revealed to someone Saachi recognizes as having a legitimate interest in Holly.
===
I doubt Saachi has a conscious reason for hugging Melvin; she’s just that kind of girl. She decided (well, “decided”; the word has a formality to it that I strongly doubt applies to Saach’s thought process here) that Melvin could be trusted with Holly’s story, ergo, he is in their circle, ergo, he gets hugged.
I wonder if this is the first time Melvin’s been spontaneously hugged by a girl.
Another “why” hypothesis: He expressed concern for her friend Holly. For many girls around her age, that would be enough.
Good for Melvin; he is now known to have two girls interested in him. To other girls, that marks him as being worthy of interest, aka “preselection”.
===
I also wonder how often Saachi has deployed the “gossip if you repeat it” line. For some reason, it strikes me as something she uses a lot.
===
One other possible implication of the hug: Saachi has assessed Melvin as “harmless”. This is not a good thing.
On gossip… according to the Hee Haw Gossip Song..
Now, we’re not ones to go round spreadin’ rumors
Why really, we’re just not the gossipy kind!
Oh, you’ll never hear one of us repeating gossip!
So you’d better be sure and listen close the first time.
That was the longest conversation sequence I’ve ever waited for.
