[Sigh.] Blaming the wrong person again.
Red stubs her toe, “Jeanie!!!”
You watch, Melvin will get Red’s breasts back but they’ll be larger and cause back problems. It’ll be one thing after another for a while.
Make up your mind, Red–do you or do you not want largish boobs?
I’m intrigued by the possibility that she’s reluctant to give up the advantages conferred by being bodaciously female.
===
Can’t quite pinpoint it–but the art style looks a bit different than usual.
It’s the worst of both worlds–she’s still a girl with all of the other things that come with it, but now she’s lost those sexy boobs–and she knows by now that her “assets” are important both to the modeling job (and thus her relationship with Ida and her building a personal power base independent from her parents), but also to getting the admiration of boys AND girls in her age group. In short, despite not liking the physical discomfort of their bulk and weight or the sometimes-excessively-lewd reactions from people, she would rather not be a flat chested female–“If I have to be a girl, I want to be a hot one”.
(Sorry for double post)
Note also in the third panel, Red is checking to see if she is still female or if the lack of breasts means a male body, and is upset to find that she is without either manhood or breasts.
Requires facts not yet in evidence. We don’t know how far the changes have gone.
It would be interesting if Red is a boy again–and finds he doesn’t want to be, not just yet. or that she is now a small breasted girl, or a flat chested one.
But we just don’t know.
I do notice the car door is still open. Melvin still has a chance to get in and explain things, maybe fix things.
Big Boobs are not a advantage all the time, Like if you don’t want attention or are into sports.
Red doesn’t seem to get off on being a girl. In fact i think he is just going with the flow hoping to be a boy again someday.
It might be the dream of the readers here but i think he is a reluctant girl.
Fundamentally, yes, but given that Red has the mindset of a stereotypical teenaged boy (i.e. at least somewhat obsessed with the idea of sexy girls), then for Red, if being a girl is insulting, then being (or becoming) a less-sexy girl is doubly insulting. The being hot is the “consolation prize” for having to be a girl, and Red is upset at having lost it without regaining the lost manhood. Certainly Red would rather be manly, but dang it, if she’s going to be a girl, then she’s going to be a hot one.
I feel like the last panel references something. Not sure what though.
Planet of the Apes?
Star Trek II?
“My Mother the Car?”
“Curse you Red Baron!”
“Gilligan!“
“Them Dukes, them Dukes!”
“Jeanie, you’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do…”
More like, “To the moon, Jeanie! To the moon!”
(I don’t remember Ricky ever raising his fist to Lucy, but then I wasn’t a big fan of the show. Or of the Honeymooners, either, for that matter, but hey, three channels and one TV for the whole family, sometimes other people got to choose.)
Stretches out name “LUCY!!!!” With deep set tone of condensation.
*meant Condemnation
Well, with Jackie Gleason as Ralph Kramden, you sometimes got the feeling he might someday haul off and belt her one—not that he’d’ve lived much longer after that, though.
I’m still waiting for an “At the Beach” story line. “A Siren is luring male swimmers to their deaths! We got to stop her!” kind of scenario. Preferably with Melvin turning BJ and himself into girls so they wont be affected.
Also, BIKINI FANSERVICE! YAY! Ida. Red. Susan. (others?) Just think of it. *drools*
I’m not sure how non-magic people like BJ and Red would fight supernatural entities though. Magic weapons and armor made by Melvin or Kazom perhaps?
It’d be cool if Melvin’s Dad used to fight supernatural creatures with Kazom and now Melvin took up the role.
Mostly, though, I’m waiting for gender switching fanservice. (and I don’t mean sexy dudes. lol)
I have a feeling that if Red found out this was Melvin’s doing she wouldn’t necessarily be angry with him, but definitely not happy either – she is aware that Melvin is still working out the kinks and capabilities of his magic; he is still has a problem with subtle wishes ๐ . I’m still curious on how this will unfold in the following pages though ๐ .
Does Melvin still have a third wish? I get the feeling he’s going to wish them back accidentally instead of changing Red back. That or give her magic boobs.
As a wizard, Mel has magical abilities in his own right; he is not dependent on three wishes from a genie.
Although one wonders what he wished for when he first acquired Kazom.
And what is Kazom’s totem, anyway? A litter box? ๐
Kazom is not a bottle genie; he is a “former genie lord” and likely does not have a totem, nor is he bound to a master. [?comic=jeanie-bottle-92]
He was in alliance with Mel’s wizardly Dad. I gather Kazom became Mel’s guardian and mentor when his Dad was lost–whatever “lost” means; I don’t think we know exactly, only that the two were cooperating in some great work that went awry.
When we first met Kazom and Melvin [?comic=jeanie-bottle-91], Jeanie was assigned temporary duty as Melvin’s genie–Kazom was Jeanie’s trainer.
Oops, the Jeanie cast page says that Melvin is Kazom’s master. But clearly, the circumstances are unusual, and the Melvin cast page makes no mention of Melvin’s mastership.
I think [?comic=concentration-key-or-p-t-s-d] is the only page with Mel’s Dad and Kazom acting together. Dad does refer to Kazom as “lamp-lover’, which may refer to Kazom’s totem, or may just be a joking jibe, like “staff jockey”.
Still, we’re looking for a lamp, not a bottle. I didn’t see it in any of the Jeanie comics featuring Kazom, but I haven’t gone through all the comics set in Melvin’s room here.
He’s not mad about losing his boobs. When he noticed they where gone he checked his crotch. Then he got mad.
The reason she got mad after checking her crotch was that she was hoping that she was turned back into a boy and not just being a flat chested girl. She yelling Jeanie, because, she thing that Jeanie is responsible for her current condition not Melvin.
You see, Red is still a girl and not a boy.
That is what I was implying. I refer to Red as he because that is the gender he identifies as.
Red still want to be a guy and would like go back to being a guy. But, she is starting to assume an identity as girl now too. So now she been denied her endowment of her large breast of her new identity and didn’t get her former assets down below and Red is pissed off.
Yes, I can see Mel trying to get Red’s Boobs back but ending up on HIM or one of his friends before finally going back where they belong. ๐
That seems like the most likely scenario.
Mel – I wish your boobs were back
Boobs sprout out of Red’s back
Mel needs to be careful to talk it over with Red to find out exactly what she wants–for now. Red’s original wish was simply that she wouldn’t need a bra, and there were many possible ways to interpret that. Whichever path the magic took, Red isn’t pleased.
As Light has suggested, though, this shouldn’t get to be a mainstay of the story. If it does, it renders Red’s sexuality moot, no more than a costume change. And Red instantly becomes boring.
I think Kazom is going to have something to say about overusing magic, too. That’s part of Mel’s story. If magic use doesn’t have risks and costs, beyond the wish being accurately framed, it becomes too powerful.
Mel and Red have both been granted extraordinary powers: literal magic, in Mel’s case, and the near magic of female sexuality, in Red’s. Both must learn to exercise their powers wisely.
(And yes: I believe that stories like Jeanie’s, of magical beings presenting as beautiful women who must be carefully controlled by their male masters least disaster strike, touches something at the core of human psychology and society. There is a very real balance of power issue at stake.)
no one likes this >:[
It’s not that we don’t like it; it’s that it’s not yet complete. We still don’t know exactly what Red’s condition is, much less its implications for her modeling career and family life.
We also don’t know if Mel is going enlighten her as to her misdirected anger for Jeanie.
Speaking of which, back in Hazard County, Jeanie’s about to revert the Dukettes back to the Dukes. I wonder if her efforts there (“Turn ’em allll back into males”) will spill over here. Maybe that’s why Mel’s wish worked the way it seems to have.
shut up.
No you.
Is there any way Melvin could give Red the ability to alter her own breasts?
Melvin doing it seems like an invasion of personal space if not sexual harassment.
Too small… Too big… There’s no pleasing some people… Here, you do it.
I’m on pins and needles waiting to see what happens.
Since the latest Jeanie arc is concluding, could a crossover be coming next?
Reminiscent of Dan Vs.
