22: Did She Get His Tongue?
Sorry for the slight delay, folks. Carlos was having some severe internet connectivity issues, so we had to improvise an alternative method of him sending me the comic for copy editing.

Quick Kazom blame it on those meddling kids, no wait that’s what she is looking for. You may need to actually do something to hide this problem.
Quick, Kaz, shag her! It’s the only way to shut her up!
Sorry to hear about Carlos’ internet issues, by the way. At least you guys could MacGuyver a solution. Hope it gets resolved quickly.
I don’t know cats can be pretty loud when engaged in “shagging.”
That noise, people would expect from two cats. Arguing about magic and being stood up, not so much.
Spider-thing, spider-thing;
Does whatever a spider-thing does;
Can it swing, from a web;
Oh god, oh god, oh god, it can fly too; run!!!!!
Hahahahah!!
I LIKE Nellah. She has sass.
Gee, I wonder just who Nellah is and what her relationship is to Kazom and Melvin is too. There is mentioned that they met about ten years ago, but, according past episodes of Melvin Chronicles, Kazom has only been in cat form for about 7 or 8 years. If we assume that Kazom meet Melvin dad 3 or 4 years earlier, then that could make Nellah either a runner from the council to Melvin Dad or possibly the familiar of Melvin Dad and then she was picked of by the Council to wait over Melvin and keep an eye on him. There is also indication that Nellah may have developed cat type sexual desire for Kazom after he turned into a cat figured Genie. I am thinking of Clamor and her interest in BJ after BJ showed interest in Clamor. I am thinking that there could be slim pickins for female cat familiars and such, that they will look almost any where to satisfy those desires.
Nellah is another cat-familiar, and is an acquaintance of Clamor. We last saw her here: https://melvin.jeaniebottle.com/?comic=123-amazing We don’t yet know what witch she’s a familiar to, although Lorion’s master, Ak’Kor, is a possibility.
She doesn’t seem totally trustworthy.
@Kattgirl – I suspect she’s teasing the bitter ex she’s got leverage over, which makes her seem like she’s playing less than straight.
Kazom is occupying the body of Thomas’ familiar (#62 of the BACH-MANN run shows it next to a humanoid Kazom). Nellah belongs to another mage of the Azure House (the group of wizards that Lorion and Thomas are affiliated with), but we haven’t seen her master yet. The implications of her previous comments, plus something Ray said during the I Dream of Technicolor story of I Dream of a Jeanie Bottle, are that Kazom has associated with the Azure House for longer than he’s known Melvin.
Maybe a good bug spray will get rid of those winged spider-things.
Naughty is missing an H in the last panel.
I want some of those winged spider things for… right, Hallowe’en’s already past.
Robert…
In Panel 4: “HASN’T BEING A NAUGTY BOY” => “hasn’t been a naughty boy”
Ah poo. That one snuck in after the initial post, due to a snafu that made me need to post an updated image with re-done copy editing.
Who else gets the sense that Kazom has been withholding information from Melvin?
Not that he’s the only person guilty of withholding information in this story, but still I get the sense that Melvin just thought he wasn’t supposed to practice in order to keep a low profile, and NOT because it was some part of a secret deal that he knew nothing about.
I don’t think he will be to happy about this. (And yes I am perfectly aware of the hypocrisy of such a reaction, because of the neurotransmitter experiment done and kept secret earlier. Still Melvin being unhappy about being kept in the dark about a secret that could effect his life to such a degree would still be a perfectly HUMAN response.)
That sword of secrecy cut both ways. Melvin being a sixteen year old boy is impatient and prone to making rash move on the spur of the moment. Yes, Melvin need to practice to get better and become an accomplished witch, but, he need to stare from doing things like the Butterfrog incantation that Kazom is currently hunting down. Melvin trying to do things he shouldn’t try to do and he trying to move too fast into something that he know virtually nothing about except what he here from Kazom. The Butterfrog, is only the leading edge of the kinds of screw ups the Melvin could do if he doesn’t lesion Kazom advice of what to do.
I DID point out Melvin’s hypocrisy you know. Also, honest question. Is English your second language? Because if so while it’s really impressive for that being the case I had to struggle to figure out what you were trying to say in some cases, and I have to wonder if I might not be Communicating clearly with you as well.
English is my primary language, but, some times I leave out a word or so when I type stuff out or spell some thing wrong or use a word pronounced the same way, but, have different meaning like, Pray or Prey. One who to Pray to God and the other one id an animal that Prey on another animal to eat it. Most of the time, I know the grammatical structure that I am suppose have, but, some times I get a little sloppy with it. Some times I have trouble tracking a sentence with my eye and since I am an eye person by nature that does cause problems. With the trouble I have with seeing things with my eyes, I have basically learned to see with my ears to compensate for my weakness of seeing with my eyes. When some one talk to me, I hear what they say immediately, but, then my mind will process it into words sentences and I will see the grammatical structure in my head and maybe 10 minutes later say, did that person say this.
Sorry about the confusion. My point was that if Melvin knew about said deal he might not try to do these small experiments. Speaking of the only reason he does said small experients on his own is because he’s left to figure things out on his own as Kazom has given him no indication he will EVER help him.
The reason I call the buterfrog experiment small, is because it looks like the way most scientific hypotheses are tested, you try it out in a controlled environment so that if anything goes wrong you figure it out on the small scale before things go bad.
Melvin thought they were lying low to avoid POSSIBLE detection, but with no sign of anyone in a while it’s a reasonable, albiet incorrect conclusion to come to, that they slipped of the radar.
Knowing that they had never been lying low but that Kazom had made an agreement for him to ONLY practice self-control, and that they were DEFINITELY being watched changes the context of things. WORDING MATTERS.
Though, again, there is NO EXCUSE for that whole neurotransmitter thing.
Also for examples of confusing language “stare from doing” I honestly don’t know what that’s supposed to mean. Stare is a synonym for glare. And it’s hard to use context clues to try and figure these things out when they are all over the place.
@Ben: I think he meant, “start from doing things…”
I used to be an editor, you have to guess at misspellings based on context.
@Kattgirl Like I said there were so many it made making context clues difficult for me. Not nessecarily impossible, but hard to wrangle out.
