Is Ida throwing the bra away through the window, or just waving it for passersby to gawk at?
I’m bored
“Nobody knows what its all about / It’s too much, man, let it all hang out…”
Does Ida know Red use to be a boy?
It really seems that that is what she is saying.
It could be that she knows she use to be a guy or she could be remembering what it use to feel like when she was younger and was first selected as a teenage female modal for displaying female wear to other people. Considering the context of what she saying to Red, it probably the second choice and her know that Red use to be a guy.
It could also just be that Red is now embarking on a life as a model and models are more or less in the spotlight given that she had been one herself.
The other is Red is a young girl and may not want the unwanted looks in that she finds it embarrassing. Her parents are of the knowledge that she used to be a boy but that doesn’t mean that they went around spreading the word of it.
I have absolutely no idea what this whole conversation has been about.
Concur, for the most part.
I dearly love Reds expression and blush in frame 2. Ida’s compliment on her looks pleases her.
Red is prepared to try life as a girl. Her expressions are clear and consistent with her words. She has accepted her femininity–“I’m not reluctant!” and is ready to go.
I expect there to be some disappointment with that, because the common narrative is mind over anatomy–but that’s gotten to be a cliche in web comics, and a story about a guy learning to be a girl, learning its costs and benefits, joys and sorrows, sounds great to me.
And here’s a big lesson, right up front: “It won’t last forever.” Exactly. Men are disposable, but women are perishable. Red–and let me say, I’d like to see her accept “Tiffany” as part of her female identity–Tiffany, then, is already close to peak pulchritude. Her modeling gig provides a good framework for girl-knowledge exposition, which she badly needs. Now she’s ready to hear it.
What I want to say next may get me hated: the point of female good looks is to attract a high quality mate, a man with whom to have kids.
Tiffany learning to manage her good looks to that specific personal and biological end, learning exactly why nerds have such a hard time getting dates–wow.
Now I have to go back and see if this scene makes more sense with this capstone.
@Nebbdyr: I said I concurred with your comment that I had no idea what this was about–and then explained the opposite, because I forgot I was replying to you.
What I meant was, nothing made sense until now, and after a quick review the previous strips are till mysterious to me. It’s clear that Tiff underwent a tectonic emotional shift, but puzzling out exactly what went through her pretty little head before today’s comic is still not clear to me.
I’m just waiting for Red to ‘re-inflate’ in front of Ida.
@Vimmy Ridge: Me too.
Art note: I like Ida hanging her bra out of the comic frame, standing in for the car window.
Character note: Does Tiffany still identify as the “anti-Princess”?
Actually, it both way at the present time about her being anti-princess and probably will remain that way for some time to come. If Melvin were to ask Red if she still anti-Princess, she would say that she still it. But, currently Red is starting to act more Princess like as time go on.
The more time that Red spend around Ida, the faster and more complete that Red will accept her new identity. Right now Red with Ida, so she going to act more like a girl. When she with Melvin and/or BJ, she will act more like a guy out of memory of having been a guy. But, over time, memories fade and being a girl will eventually become predominant thing in Red thinking. She still not ready to call herself Tiffany yet, that will be something she might do in the future, but, not today.
Dang it, one more point: Ida’s previous comment about bra stuffing was key; it meant that Tiff has more control than she did over her appearance and therefore, her persona. She is no longer defined by her tits.
But they were so NICE!
*^-^*
it’s been quite a while, where’s the next page?
Medal, nothin’. If Red’s still female by the time age 18 rolls around, it’ll be interesting to hear what she’ll have to say to her parents on her way out the door.
Well, I would hope that Red at least waits until she gets her high school diploma before striking out on her own–even if she has enough money to support herself at that point, managing living on your own for the first time AND a job, AND school all at once without family support can be crushing.
Maybe Melvin will make Red bustier than before!
+1 for bustier Tiffany!
I really don’t want Mel to mess with Tiffany anymore. Isn’t just being a girl enough? She already got her wish to have a more comfortable bust. Let be.
Besides, Mel needs to concentrate on developing his skills rather than endlessly tweaking Tiffany.
===
Although I mentioned it already, I have to say again:
TIff’s pleased blush at Ida’s praise, then her coming to attention and asserting, “Who’s reluctant? I’m not reluctant!” is super. She is all in now.
I’m surprised, Melvin hasn’t wished back Red’s bust…
Hey, I just realised, why isn’t Kazom granting all Melvin’s ‘wishes’. Isn’t Kazom Melvin’s Genie?
Kazom is teaching Mel to be a wizard like his Dad, to wield magic himself. Kazom granting Mel’s wishes would be like weight-training someone by lifting the weights for him.
This comic sure takes a while to update.
I still love the comic, but I think they should remove the statement.
“COMIC UPDATES TUESDAYS AND SATURDAYS”
I have to agree. I would also like it if it were noted underneath if the comic is to be delayed. I have no disrespect and know its for our enjoyment, but to have days or weeks passing it would be nice to know. RL does happen and for now I hope nothing both monetary or health wise is the problem.
Yes. And concur with Ibi about delay announcements being a good thing.
This comic is not well enough established that it can afford to have an irregular update schedule of longer than one week.
I’m moving this comic to my weekly or monthly checking list…
Looks like it’s dead again 🙁
I was hoping we would get regular updates.
A new strip will be posted before Sunday.
Yay, was wondering when the next would be.
Thanks for the note.
Well, it’s Sunday, and no update. I guess honesty isn’t valued here.
It’s not that it isn’t valued, there were complications. I am at the computer right now working on finishing it up.
Glad to hear, I enjoy the strip very much and look forward to seeing new ones.
