I don’t care WHO’S at the door, they have saved us from a long and boring Kazom flashback story.
It ain’t the 1500’s anymore, Kazom! We need that info at light speed! We got things to do!
So, Kazom knows the story behind Melvin’s dad–that may indeed be part of why he hangs around with them.

Kazon was probably Melvin’s dad Genie and Melvin just inherited him.
Can genies be inherited?
Bottles can be inherited. Why not Genies?
Maybe more like Kazom made a promise to Melvin’s father (or a wish was used for it) to look after his family.
