Chapter: Journey to the Cave of Wonders
Characters: Dick Knight, Melvin Clark
Location: The Cave of Wonders
Melvin certainly has an… interesting way to express his confidence in his manliness.
I noticed that Mel did not correct Dick about Red being a nymph and having powers. Mel also seems way too comfortable dressing as a woman.
Reminds me to Ranma, man among men, who also managed to be the hottest and more feminine character in his/her own way.
I was puzzled at first why Mel said this. But, yeah, Ranma is a good analogy. If I remember correctly, Mel is a man knows he is a man and simply agreed to adopt this disguise for the moment and expects to change back after the adventure.
If I recall correctly, he didn’t so much agree to the change, rather he chose it on his own initiative.
Thanks. It’s been a while since I’ve reread the comic. It’s about time I did it again.
Why do you think Dick is wrong about Red being a nymph and having powers?
I don’t think Dickhead IS wrong, but Mel & the gang [supposedly] didn’t know that, so one would think that Mel might say something. Unless, of course, Mel is privy to more knowledge than we’re aware of.
Communication requires both sides understanding what is being said. Especially when words can have different meanings in different contexts.
Since Melvin doesn’t actually know Red has fae ancestry he’s probably assuming Dick referring to Red as a “nymph” means nubile young woman instead of magical creature of faery.
Noticed that Dick went from intimidating to helpful, looking to see were this was all going.
Not sure I would trust that, at all. He could easily switch back in an instant.
I’m beginning to think that Dick is less evil than amoral.
Maybe he just wants to be seen that way.
Interesting that Melvin seems to have no trouble putting on earrings. That takes a bit of practice.
Pantyhose, too. Unless you don’t mind runs, I guess.
My guess: enchanted clothing, giving one the knowledge of how to put it on while you hold it.
Now, magic clothing; THAT’S a cool thought – particularly if some things are self-fastening, like dresses that zip in back. I’d kill for an outfit like that.
With hosiery, at least you can [mostly] see what you’re doing. With earrings, you have to work by touch. Can be REALLY frustrating at times.
Interestingly enough, back in the 1980s, apparel companies actually did invent pantyhose that are essentially run-proof. But they elected not to manufacture them, because they last too long, thus cutting into sales. Talk about your ‘planned obsolescence’…
Why am I not surprised? lol
