Chapter: Getting Back Into the Groove
Characters: Melvin Clark, Tiffany "Red" Thornton
Location: The High School
Whoa! Lookin’ GOOD, Red!
Whoa! Lookin’ GOOD, Red!
So Melvin has some control on Reds body but yet he cant change genders and Kazom is no real help. Even though he could poof Jeanie and fix everything in like 5 minutes. But were is the fun in that.
Well he can add new magic effects, but he can’t counteract the basic changes that Jeannie’s magic made.
And he can’t summon Jeannie without having control of her bottle.
I think he meant that KAZOM could summon Jeanie if he actually cared to do so.
@ijuinkun – Kazom’s not a genie lord anymore, so I doubt he has the power to poof up other genies.
Message her–“Jeanie get your ass over here and fix this or I’ll tell Guano how you screwed up!”
@ljuinkun:
Uh, no – in case you haven’t noticed, Clarence wasn’t Kazom’s favorite person to begin with, and Kazom seems to enjoy needling Tiffany, calling her “Princess”, and so on. So he’s probably not going to make any extra effort to contact Jeannie on her behalf, particularly if it involved expending magic.
@Kattgirl – pretty sure the “I’ll tell Guano” part of ijuinkun’s argument wouldn’t hold up in court either.
@Kattgirl:
That would be why I said that Kazom could do it “if he actually cared to do so”, which of course he DOESN’T.
@HeWhoAbides:
In court? All Kazom actually needs is to threaten something that will annoy/inconvenience Jeannie enough to make her give half a crap about fixing Clarence in order to motivate her. He could alternatively offer a carrot instead of the stick, but THAT would probably require expending some of his own magic, which he would rather avoid.
Magic never seems to work the way you want it, does it?
Certainly never does for me.
Get your spells from a licensed spell-vendor, then. The cheap ones on the Internet are nothing but a ripoff, no matter how much you save.
And this is why you should never use mind-altering magic on yourself.
Yeah, seems like a recipe for disaster, really.
So Melvin and Tiffany are the only ones at the party that know what happen, because Melvin had to cast a a spell to make everybody think it was a dream or possibly forget what happen during the party. Then Melvin had to lie about it, to hid what he did from Holly, this relationship isn’t starting off on the right foot. I wonder if Melvin is telling the story while JJ still there and hearing what Melvin is saying right now. This isn’t a good time for Melvin to be talking right now. Besides, Holly is still across the hall way right now and still watching them too.
Melvin shifts from referring Red as Him and Her.
Well, it IS a bit confusing for Tiffany to still be insisting that she’s a boy. Particularly since I think she was having PMS in panel 1.
I think that was just the spell.
That is an intentional part of the writing.
You need to remember that before the party by maybe two or three weeks, Tiffany was Clarence and he was still a boy and his new identity of being Tiffany and not Clarence. So we have a cross over from seeing him as a her, so we have kind of a gender confused conversation of referring to Red as a him or a her or using the name Clarence or Tiffany when it cone to referring to Red as a person, gender or there or the name that Red goes under Clarence or Tiffany. Now that it been five of six months that Clarence has been Tiffany, the people are going to be seeing her as a girl and referring to her as Tiffany when they talk about her and stop calling her Clarence which is a guy name. We can use caller her Red if we don’t want to call her Clarence or Tiffany, because, calling her Red is gender neutral and can be use to refer to her either as a boy or girl.
Although there was a clear time that Red stop being a boy and started being a girl, the thought process of the people are going be just a little bit muddy up until people like Melvin and BJ come to terms with Clarence being Tiffany and not Clarence anymore. Now that it been five to six month now that Clarence has been Tiffany, this issue should start to drift away and stop being one of the main issue anymore. Red may still talk to Melvin about it and we may still have discussion on the mater, but, for most of the rest of this comic, it will be a non issue. Melvin may crew thing up like at the party, but, it basically just a side issue now.
Unless Clarence states he wants to still identify as a boy anyway.
Tiffany is sitting in an interesting position. She has had a few months of being female compared to a few years being male. As of right now she has a promising modeling and acting career which could be good for the bank account. When she was male it appeared he didn’t have much lined up and wasn’t thinking of going into acting or modeling. He may have been happier at that point. Should she have the means to turn back, will she choose to continue in her new life or go back to the old one?
@SGT Lewis, in the end, it not about Tiffany being the hottest girl on the planet that every one want, with a high profile Modeling career and protentual acting career. If that not what Tiffany is inside herself, but, is a Nerd boy who has no Modeling prospects or future move career acting, He will choose to be a boy again or become Clarence again. Tiffany/Clarence will have to choose who they will be, that why we see so many people guys wanting to be girls and so many girls wanting to be guys. This series and the Jeanie bottle is a transplant Deviant Art where that is the main theme of the entire website.
Actually in the scene with Saachi and Melvin talking, after the teleport incident, she mentioned that the party is over five or six weeks in the future, so Clarence/Red would have been a girl for about two months.
Interesting that Melvin and the Blue Djinn seem to have independently invented the same technique. Though the BD seems to have it under much better control. Maybe he’s just had more practice.
And Red’s right – that IS a great dress. Gotta hand it to Mary on that one.
You know – based on experience, Red’s problem was more likely with wearing a long dress and heels. That’s a deadly combination for a newbie.
It’s also a super SEXY combination. 🙂
So, Melvin magicked Red into a schizophrenic psycho-chick? I’m thinking he really needs to lose his powers for a bit, since he seems to screw things up while relying waaaaaay too much on them. I mean, learn what they do first, kid.
Unfortunately, there’s no instruction manual. So the only way to learn what something does is to try it.
Kazon did give Melvin spell manual of how to created thing and change things, but, it doesn’t tell you what the consequences are when you do that and there are consequences too and some very nasty thing happen too like creating of the Betterfrog or werse. The problem with having no instruction manual on what the out come of what the spell is likely to do or cause is, it a trial or error learning curve, you can have good result or you can have bad results when the spell been make.
I know that Tiffany want to go back to being a boy, but, being a human girl is still being something else that isn’t human. Having Melvin practicing his witchcraft magic or using his spell on her try to transform her back into a guy, might not be such a good idea and could have dare consequences.
@Kattgirl – wouldn’t’ve been the only option if Kazom was a little nicer to Lorion . . .
I wonder if the background colors behind each character in the flashback are important, or if they are just there to look pretty?
For example if Melvin having a blue background is because he is the blue wizard or because it looks good/fits the mood? And if it’s the former what dies that say about the MULTIPLE COLORS of background that Red goes through.
Yes I realize I am probably reading WAY TO MUCH into what was probably just a stylistic choice but it never hurts to makes crazy guesses. Once in a blue moon (snicker) you’ll hit pay dirt.
At this point enter Sachi who asks, “find out what?”
Seriously the joke just rights itself.
P.S. I know Kazom would work better but we already established Sacchi was on her way there.
P.P.S. ALTHOUGH, if it IS Kazom who asks the question…?
Does Kazom have the energy to kill anybody? Most of the time he seems kinda settled in. (‘Course you never know with cats.)
You’d be surprised how easy it is to kill someone with minimal magical expenditure. 🙂
Kazom would “kill” them in the sense that angry parents would “kill” their kids for doing something outrageous. As a teacher angry at the foolishness of his apprentice, he’d rant and lecture him and all of that other good stuff, but literally putting a person to death is forbidden to Genies.
I think Kazom could easily kill someone without even needing magic. (It’s amazing the tricks you can pick up, living for three or four thousand years.)
But I don’t think Melvin is being literal here; he just means that he’d get a good chewing-out.
Tricks aren’t really needed. It is so easy to trip over a cat.
Now i want to know more dang it! Seeing Red with some confidence and Mervin power tripping would be awesome.
